Noreja Castle

Noreja Castle was built by King Aeren I of Liri. The ruins of the castle still stand in modern day Neith, where they are open for visitors. The ruins of the castle are a contention in Neith, with some wanting them to stay open as it is part of Neith's history, and others wanting them to be torn down as they they are a symbol of Liri's occupation of Neith.

Purpose / Function

Noreja Castle was built in 1705 by King Aeren I of Liri as the site of the new capital of the Liri empire. It was intended to be a grander castle than had ever been built before in the empire and to show the might of the king of Liri. This was also a more centralized location for the new capital, which made the king more accessible to all members of the empire.

Alterations

The castle was torn down by stone mages on the order of King Enul II, who was the first to adopt the ideals of Raveen. The castle, along with others in the empire, was torn down, and the stones were used to build part of a new castle, which again reset the capital of Liri and ushered in a new era. The ruins of the castle were then made an attraction, and people went to visit them, until the Neith revolution, which reset Liri's borders. Though the castle officially remains open to visitors, it gets few and many people would like to see it torn down, as it is a symbol of the occupation by Liri.

Architecture

The castle was built out of white stone blocks, dragged from the outer edges of the empire to showcase King Aeren's strength. It originally stood six stories tall, with an additional tower room two stories above that. Though it was originally intended to rival the Temple of Triumph in Linakra (historical documents reveal that there were several plans for the castle, each grander than the last, and letters indicate that the king was never entirely pleased with it), it only reached a fraction of the height of the Grand Belltower. It was, however, placed at the top of a mountain to give it a greater air of grandeur. At the bottom of the mountain, a city was built, Aerennec, to be the new capital of Liri.
