Queen Lyra
Lyra was born in year 630 on the Bathblast Islands to an affluent military family. Like most residents of the area, she was likely of mixed Mermish and human descent and bore common features of such descent including her dark hair, blue eyes, and a slight webbing of the fingers. Unlike most people of Mermish descent, however, Lyra did not have an affinity for water magic and was not even a strong swimmer.
Due to her family's standing, Lyra grew up alongside Ishan Hall and the royal family, notably their son, Tristan, who was the same age as herself. At seventeen, she became romantically involved with Ishan, and in 654, they made plans to marry.
Unfortunately, the next year, while on a sailing expedition, Lyra fell overboard and was attacked by painted turtles. Ishan rescued her, and though she survived, much of her body was permanantly scarred. Lyra spent the better part of the year at home, recovering from the attack. During this time, the Bathblast king died, and Tristan took the throne. When Lyra came back into public life, Tristan requested an audience with her, where he proposed.
Lyra knew it would be difficult to refuse a proposal from the king. Furthermore, she and Ishan had had no further discussions of marriage since the accident, and her role as queen would likey keep her on land and away from further swimming accidents. Lyra also had ideas for how she could improve the Bathblast Islands from the position as queen. She agreed to proposal and in 657, she and Tristan were married. Their son, Dario, and their daughter, Avva were born in the two subsequent years.
Legacy
During the following thirteen years, Lyra and Tristan became beloved rulers. They expanded the navy, and Lyra used her position as queen to pursue social equality for the small population who, like her, did not have a natural gift for water magic. This expansion also resulted in the invention of the compass ship. They formed alliances with the Fr'phe Islanders and formed settlements in what is today Antarand and Agrona. Lyra and Tristan are also credited with developing the first promisory notes at this time. In general, the country flourished, even as others near them struggled.
In 671, her husband was found dead, having likely been killed by a wild animal, near Ishan Hall's home. Hall himself was missing and never found. Prince Dario disappeared shortly afterward. During the following decade, Lyra retreated further and further away from the public, often claiming that she did not want others to see her scars, though this did not seem to have bothered her before. Her daughter, Avva, took on more and more of the responsibility of ruling the country until formally ascending to the throne after Lyra's death in 681. Despite the mysterious and tragic circumstances regarding the end of their reign, King Tristan and Queen Lyra remain some of the most beloved rulers in Bathblast Island history.

For a moment, I was worried Tristan would abandon her because she was disfigured, and then I was happy he didn't, and then I was sad about the tragedy that befell them after. I'm glad they have such a great legacy.

Yeah, he didn't care that she was disfigured or that she wasn't a good swimmer. His heart was in the right place.
