Sama Todeline
Born in 1946 to diplomats Todo Gatseline and Meldoy Nightwind, Sam Todeline grew up straddling the two worlds of Agronan humans and Nefralean sprites. Unlike his two sisters, Cadolina and Tilli, he found a way to merge the traditions of both his parents' families in his own lifestyle, sprite and human clothing styles and following both the teachings of the Xurugwi temple and the legends of the Calistian gods.
Sam is shorter and darker than either of his sisters, more closely resembling their sprite mother. As a child, his older sister convinced him that this was because Xurugwi tricksters were after him, and he had to learn to play the harmonica in order to fend them off. He practiced for a year, becoming quite good at the harmonica, only to learn that his sister had not only lied to him, she didn't believe in Xurugwi tricksters at all. Since then, he has always born a grudge toward his sister, the harmonica, and his sprite skin.
When Sam was nine, he was traveling with his family. While out with his parents, someone broke into the room where his sisters were, attempting to kill them. In her fright, Sam's younger sister, Tilli, accidentally killed the man by drawing his breath out of him with her wind magic. He only saw the aftermath--his little sister, terrified of what she had done and what punishment she faced--and he traces his interest in the law back to this moment.
Though Sam was privately tutored most of his life, he applied to attend Faraday Academy of Magic as his parents and sister had done. After being accepted, he centered his study on wind and weather magic, as well as social studies, with an interest to pursue legal studies in the future. He did not on well with his roommate, Charlie Newman, a Nefralean boy with a gift for light and heat. At the end of their first quarter of study, Charlie accidentally shut off the lights in Victoria House and melted the fixtures in their room. In his fear of Charlie, Sam passed this on to other students, along with a couple unpleasant things he'd learned about Charlie's past. This ruined his relationship with the other boy. Sam struggled with the negative emotions that came from this by buying things, overspending his allowance, and seeking money elsewhere.
Still, good things came out of this first year. Sam passed his windcasting class with a perfect score and was tapped for Magnolia House, where he made friends with a role-playing group. Sam is currently a third-year at Faraday and pursuing a position as Student Head in his final year.
