The Great Tempter
CW: racial prejudice, demons
The Great Tempter is the embodiment of evil according to the Een religion. He corrupts both mortals and gods with the goal of destroying the world. The only being who is immune to his powers is the Soul-Joiner, who is actively fighting the tempter, along with those who follow him. He is usually depicted as a monster with claws, horns, and wings. This appearance likely led Een followers to fear early Dragons, believing them demons. As a result dragons fled to Far Mountains.
According to The Soul Word, one of four Een religious texts, the Soul-Joiner and the Great Tempter fought at the beginning of the world. Unable to defeat him outright, the Soul-Joiner fashioned a prison for his adversay, but even from this prison he still speaks to gods and men, tempting them into doing his bidding to help him escape. The Soul-Joiner is only able to keep him imprisoned with the help of others who are committed to good, and with their help, he will one day defeat the Great Tempter for good. It is by following the Soul-Joiner and his laws that mortals are able to weaken the Great Tempter. It is also important for Een followers to convert outsiders, as the Great Tempter may corrupt other gods, leading their followers astray without their knowledge. Some Een followers, especially in Diamondheart believe that the Diamondheart Die-off was actually an attempt by the Great Tempter to return, and that Soul-Joiner imprisoned him again, this time, in Auras Pond.

Hopefully the Great Tempter doesn't get out of his prison, especially as he can already influence from within it.
