The Triumphant Rebellion

The Triumphant Rebellion, also known as the Gross War, because of its length, was a conflict that lasted 144 days in what is now Beffing, when settlers from Zenxon tried to take land from the elves that lived in the northern part of the minor continent. It was the first human invasion of the Elvish lands.

The Conflict

Prelude

In 1602, the king of Zenxon, wanting to expand his power, decided to create colonies on the nearby minor continent. Not knowing who was living in the area, he sent three ships to explore the land and learn about who was living there. They landed in what is now northern Suxad, and though they met no humans, did meet many elves who lived in the area, and with whom they could not communicate. When the ships returned, the king was told that the land was fertile and owned by no one, though there were some elves living in the area.

Deployment

Believing humans were superior to other races, the king decided it was his right to colonize the area. In 1611, he sent 10 more ships with a combination of colonists and a small army. The plan was for the army to overtake any elves that "got in the way" of the colonists settling in their new home. Because humans had for so long suppressed the sprites in Zenxon, the king thought he would not need a lot of man power to defeat the elves. He greatly underestimated them.

The Engagement

Though the elves had for centuries lived peacefully with their human neighbors to the south, in case of invasion along the coastline, they had long maintained both a peaceful greeting party, which had first met the humans in 1602, and an army of warrior-wizards in the event that newcomers were not peaceful themselves. At the first threat by the humans to their villages, the army was deployed. Though the humans had guns, which the elves did not, the elves vastly outnumbered the humans and had far superior magic. Fighting ensued up and down the coastline, and though the humans won some battles, the elves, led by their shapeshifter general, continued to push the humans back, while also whittling down their army. As the elves neared the human colonies, the human general called a retreat, afraid the elves might harm the innocent colonists. Zenxon did not send another ship to the area until 1753.
