Ping was born a Drab to the lost Kirin Clan. She was raised in the valley center's Tranquil Basin where she learned to fish. Ping has lived most of her life in solitude so she has difficulty navigating social situations. She is also determined to unravel the events that lead to her village's destruction.
Perhaps it was because she was an unlucky Drab, but when she was young her mother left her, then her father followed not long after. She was left to live with her stepmother who was distant and only cared for her out of obligation. Ping was raised by the rest of the village as much as what passed for as her family.
As she grew, Ping learned to fish from an old fisher woman and she proved to be a natural. Fishing became her main source of income for her and her stepmother. Even growing up, Ping had few friends and her only acquaintances were the other fishers and the merchants. When her fishing mentor passed away, she left behind her magical collapsing fishing pole which is one of Ping's most cherished possessions.
