Samuel "pak" Rhee

Samuel "pak" Rhee (a.k.a. pak)

For Samuel, growing up in Night City had its ups and its downs, especially when born to Edgerunner parents. His mother and father, a Netrunner and Solo respectively, often taught him a few tricks of the trade as well as gifted a couple hand-me-downs to help him survive in the city later in life, but ultimately they wanted to move away from Night City as a family and retire to a quiet life. Nearly every other week, his home changed based off of whatever current "job" his parents had, so he hardly made any friends as a child, but he grew quite familiar with the streets whenever he was left unattended (which was quite often). Eventually by the age of 10, he was already netrunning into some of the city's access points to either hijack TV signals, suddenly changing traffic lights, or to steal some eddies from the parking meters. As for his "home life", he fondly remembers his stays at the most finest suites in Night City, enjoying the most gourmet cuisine whilst being guarded by top-spec security drones; though more often than not, his "home" was usually some small conapt or the sewers if his parents were on the run. It wasn't until Sam's 20th birthday where his parents' luck would eventually run out.   One night his mother would return to the conapt; bloodied, bruised, and silent- his father nowhere in sight with the only thing left of him being his mirrorshades that his mother brought back. A gig that went horribly wrong, his father had perished after his estranged uncle had ratted the two out to Arasaka authorities about their personal endeavor to cripple a part of the Corpo's security network. A year following this incident, Samuel would return from his classes at NCU to discover a cryptic note signed by his mother and a data shard containing her old rootkit that she used to plant and produce viruses in NET Architecture; whatever the note said, the hint was clear enough, he was alone. After months of depression, Sam would quit school and pick up where his parents left off and began making contact with their old fixers. For the next several years, Sam would make a name for himself among other runners, hacking into corpo or government subnets to steal data or to sabotage them. Eventually his activities would grab the attention of NetWatch, who would initially dispatch an agent to recruit Sam into the fold. However, he would turn down this lucrative opportunity as a corpo netrunner, telling NetWatch to "go suck some scop".   Sam was also no stranger to the municipal government of Night City, with his earlier antics as a child bringing him (and his parents) at odds with the NCPD quite often. Even as an grown adult, his last big gig involved publicly humiliating then-Acting Mayor of Night City, Weldon Holt, during which he would encounter his now close friend and partner, Jessie (referred as "se7en" on the Net). Initially meeting as rivals competing who would get credit for the job, they would soon agree to team up and split the reward 50/50 rather than ICEing each other. From then on, the two would become reliable partners as they both took on more difficult and complex jobs, with one providing as security or backup as the other is busy hacking into a subnet. Aside from work, the two would also find themselves as confidants   Despite his enjoyment of his current status as a netrunner, he still wishes to have the life his parents dreamt of since he was a child. A quiet life far away from Night City.
