The Crater
Geography
A massive impact crater off the western coast of Gleann Blathànna created by the impact of Piléar Sinsear when it fell from orbit.
The crater is divided into several different ecosystemic sections, from outer to inner being:
- The Reef- Growing on the external ridge of the crater, this reef is composed mostly of Coralline plants and proto-sponges, it is home to several shallow-water species both native to the area and from the landmark
- The Chasm- A cliff that goes deep in the crater and leads directly to the next section; here several burrowing species can be found as well as the first pelagic animals
- The Abyss- The largest section of the crater, this immense abyssal plain in the deepest point in the whole crater and is home mostly to landmark species, allochronous creatures probably originated by the central structure
- The Sandy Peak Ring- Here the water is shallower again as we get close to Piléar Sinsear, creatures here are almost all Landmark originated, the closest humans can get to the structure
- The Core- The shallow waters up to the base of Piléar Sinsear, unreachable by humanity; the few species that have been observed at a distance from the area are all Landmark originated
Fauna & Flora
Perhaps best known for the allochronous nature of its biota, the Crater is home mostly to local species from the area and Endemic to the landmark, below a comprehensive distinction between the two types of lifeforms from the area:
- Local Species- An animal or plant occurring naturally in the are, like all other lifeforms on the planet; some of these local species are also Endemic, meaning they're exclusive to the Crater and are not found elsewhere
- Landmark Species- These are allochronous animals (meaning they're not from our time) that come from The Core of the Crater, they range from organisms that only went extinct recently to the oldest known organism which went extinct 90 million years ago, older ones are sighted near the Core but remain unconfirmed
Tourism
Since the waters of The Crater have been opened to humans by Deshivohai, the site has become a popular tourist attraction worldwide.
The unique ecosystems of the area have since become protected under the TWPP and are still subject of study among Marine Biologists, Xenoengineers and Paleontologists.
Along the west coast of Gleann Blathànna, a lot of human settlements have been built over the years, overlooking Piléar Sinsear and the surrounding waters as tourist-centric towns where tourists and experts alike stay.
Small communities of Precursor technology hunters also occupied the lower sections of the cliffs to hunt for Precursor scraps inside the crater, although they have to do so while remaining hidden from the gaze of the Deshivohai machines, who own the landmark and Crater.
For several Years Poaching of Landmark species was severe, given the allochronous nature of most of them, they can be sold to collectors at high prices globally.
Poaching has since diminished in frequency after some heavy intervention from the Deshivohai and today several of those species can be found on the market legally, as long as the owners of the Crater allow humanity to breed them.
