Belandra Moncharr Character in Nimenra | World Anvil

Belandra Moncharr

Born between the Kingdom of Ravero and Nilaminra, Belandra have a shared inheritance from her Renvar father and Nilandri mother. Early in her life, she was more of a tomboy than the pretty girl she looked like, growing up to be strong as a horse and worked with boat building together with her brothers and sisters. However, danger came to their home. Belandra took up arms, became a soldier in the local army and fought for his master. It was there that she met her future husband, Pierré, a ten year older merchant who also had been recruited. After five years of service in the local lord's guard, they moved to build a life in a village near Astria until Pierré's death at the early age of 43. However, his business had shadows from troublesome people stalking her and who threatened her family. Instead of staying with their daughter, Annie, they moved to Astria, where Belandra became a seamstress and a part of the garrisons volunteers. Years pass and now at the age of 39 she also has Lanrin, an old friend, staying at her home due to his flight from dangers in Ravero.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Over the years Belandra has had a strong physique despite not looking like it. She can carry up to a hundred kilos and hit like a runaway cart. Standing at an impressive 1,77 meters, she is well above the average height of a woman. Some visible scars are still left since her time as a warrior, most notably one of two centimetres that follows her left jawline, yet she is fair on the eyes.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Belandra Moncharr is born in the small village of Floreen on the northeastern border between the Kingdom of Ravero and The Theocracy of Nilari and Minrans. Already when she was young she was special amongst the children as she rather plays sword fighting than riddles, sewing or games such as hidden and seek or tag. Her friends would call her "High Bela" since she grew taller and stronger than the other children at first until the boys caught up. By then she was also known for being part of fights, although nothing too serious since she had great respect for her father since he did not like that activity at all.
It was what probably saved her in the end, as she and her family lived close to the north. Raiders, while uncommon due to their distance from the northern border to the Far mountains, came to their home when Belandra was 21. She took up a sword and fought them to save her village and they did so. She and the others who had participated were local heroes, until another, larger raid came. For two days the village held out and in time for the local lord's army to arrive. The village survived and Belandra found a calling, to fight and protect others from harm. Not able to be a knight or rise to become an officer, she signed up to the local lord's, Baron Norriver, army. During her time in this army, she met Pierré, a nilaminran who came from a wealthy merchant family. They fell in love, after a lot of courting on Pierré's part as Belandra's test of him, and married when Belandra was 25. Another man Belandra met during her time in the army was Lanrin, a then aspiring knight. They shared a common interest in wrestling and long-distance running as training and some battles during Lanrin's participation in an effort against northern raids.
By the age of 27, Belandra and Pierre left the army. They decided to move across the border to a village near Astria. The village of Deuxgran was known for their fine grape fields so Pierré settled on trying the art himself. In the meantime, Belandra became a builder and craftsman of woodwork. Around the same time she got pregnant and gave birth to a daughter they named Annie. For five years they had marital bliss and happy life with not much trouble. That was until Pierré died of Freezing Feaver at the age of 43. His business was inherited by Belandra and at the time they had a large field of grapes with wine production. But it seemed like Pierré had his secrets. One day a year later some people came and threatened Belandra about the field of grapes, that it was theirs from that day on. Belandra promptly beat them heavily and threw them out together with her labourers. She still had a lurking feeling that something was going to happen if she stayed and sold everything she owned to one of the labourers. She and her daughter moved to the capital of Nilaminra, Astria to live a new life.
Astria was foreign to a renvar woman and even more so as a lone mother. Eyes followed her where she went but she held her ground as always and eventually in her quarters she gained respect as a quality person that could help with much. Working as a seamstress and part-time woodworker was tiresome for someone like her with adventure and outdoor spirit. But after five years of peaceful life, a person came knocking. It was Lanrin who she only had some letter contact with after they separated so many years ago. He had no other place to go since he had done someone wrong in Ravero. She allowed him to stay, but that demanded more money, even with his promise to make it all up.
