Girdei {English}
Geist saved a lot of demons' lives with his discovery of Girdei's healing ability. Unfortunately, there was little recognition of him during the time he grew it himself.Girdei, or Girtrandeilo as the Salandites call it, is a plant that is harvested mostly as a ritualistic substance but has over the years become more and more available as a counter-acting antiviral for Serverius, a dangerous disease that many demons had to endure before Carvem Geist discovered its preventive and healing properties.— Everam, Teller of Nimenra
Basic Information
Anatomy
A rather large stem is what protrudes from the ground and the root system, and from the stem, there are several smaller branches with tri-circular leaves that extend out. On the top, there are usually two small flowers that can be red and green in colouration with sacks in the middle.
Genetics and Reproduction
As many plants and flowers do, they reproduce by pollen that moves in the wind from flower to flower or with the help of insects. They then get to the pistil where the seed eventually is fertilized and later released.
Growth Rate & Stages
From its seed, it grows in about five weeks to a fully flowering plant.
Ecology and Habitats
Most optimally, there has to be a lot of water for it to natively grow. Where Salandites and Girdei have their origin, there are mossy lands from the mountains that drive down a lot of water. As it has moved out of this area, it has bee shown to survive in good soil with regular and daily watering and caretaking.
Additional Information
Uses, Products & Exploitation
Girdei possesses a sweet and thick sap/juices that is extractable from the stem of the plant. This liquid has properties that help with magical illnesses, but most importantly helps with Serverius, a very potent disease that killed a lot of demons. It also seems to be able to aid in the recovery of normal colds. Since this discovery by Geist, many pharmacists and Rhycar monks have experimented with making medicine out of the liquid.
Salandites have used the juices for their ritualistic coming of age ceremonies and festivities. Girdei for them has a special meaning of summer and new beginning for them.
