The Neku Yvverser

An enforcer unit is what they call them, but within Nekuram's army, they are known for being much more then enforcers. They are diciplined and fear nothing, facing death even when it is certain.

Yvversers are a dangerous elite force of Demons that are known to be among the deadliest of all the formations Nekuram has. Clothed in the armour of dark-steel and armed with bastard-swords with only one edge, they are deployed as a last resort or when Nekuram is marching with full force on their enemies.

Composition

Manpower

There are 100 demons in a unit, divided into groups of 25 each. Of these 25, 15 have the responsibility of being capable of specialized duties such as but not limited to the capacity of manning equipment, leadership role in case of loss of officers and construction of outposts. These contingencies are mostly for when the unit works alone. At most, there have been eight of these units, totalling 800 men as the Yvversers.

Equipment

Yvversers are famed for their black, dark-steel armour that covers most of the body from its helmet and breastplate to the skirt and armoured legs. All have a coloured stripe on their right shoulder to show what unit they belong to, and another for if they belong to the specialised sections of their units. The specialists are then in charge of having other equipment, such as tools of repair for larger weapons and short-crossbows and bolts.

Weaponry

The large bastard-swords, or Glavh, as they are called, are one and a half meter long with a sharp edge capable of slashing through normal iron armour when sharpened. As a two-handed weapon of large proportions, they are a feared sight when charged at as the typical Yvversers are at least 1,9 meters tall. Some units have been ordered to combine ranged alternatives with the large sword, firing them before letting the enemy charge them.

Structure

The 100 man unit is led by their commanding officer or a major within the Yvversers. The 25 man group is led by their Sigoir, a captain-rank within the Nekurian army. Then there are the 25 specialists that can contain persons who are in fact majors or Sigoirs themselves, as they are replacements for losses in the army. If they are not part of these specialists in leadership, then a Saird leads the specialiced group. The other 75 are led by their Sigoir until death.

Tactics

When the unit enters the battlefield, they do it in a double line with each and everyone carrying their sword, ready to strike down any who charge them. This wall-formation has over history had a reputation of being one of the most effective at holding enemies at bay and being a wall of death. They are priced unit for this and hard to kill even surrounded since they adapt a circle formation. As they are disciplined elites, they don't rout and fight until death or, if any dare to, capture.
Although elites on the battlefield that are experts att defence, humans have sometimes gotten the better of them with large weapons batteries such as ballistas and catapults. Some of humanity's own elites, like the Order of the Holy Relinnias, have been able to defeat the Yvversers.

Training

Many of these don't see war, as they are an equally feared and priced unit that the kings of Nekuram have deployed only in emergencies or in all-out attacks. Training consists of strength exercises to carry the heavy armour and sword, also there is a lot of training going into conditioning to keep fighting for as long as possible.
People are specifically picked throughout the army or through a contest held every four years by the Yvversers. Beyond the rigorous physical training, there are training regimes to reduce fearfulness and increase strongheartedness. Many fail at this point, having to face whatever fear they already have and a failure of character is an immediate disqualification form the unit.
