The Red Lord of The Vampire Duchies

There is always someone who is the strongest or the most cunning of all. Perhaps both are needed to be the leader of the vampires.

The Vampire Duchies is a territory ruled by Nekuram but there has always been a strained relationship between the two. Despite this the vampires listen to their "Red Lord", also known as the Arch Duke, who is considered the de facto leader over the territory and region of Nekuram. The title within the territory is considered to be of equal rank to the King of Nekuram. The Red Lord has been a trouble for many Nekurian kings yet the leader of the duchies remains largely content with his arrangement with Nekuram.

Leader of Vampires

While all vampire families are allowed a place in Nekuram's High Council, The Red Lord decides which families are allowed to have such a place of power. With his status within the Vampire Duchies as the strongest of all vampires, few ever decide to act against his choices. Some families, like the Bloodvires who have served as Red Lords previously, seem to ignore the Red Lords' voice at times. While a dangerous show of disunity within, the Red Lord tends to be a uniting title that all vampires still see authority in.

The Red Lord is often an inherited but also a position of merit due to the Red Lord having to handle the intrigue or challenges that come with being on the top. Families that aspire to become more powerful, families that try to take over others or individuals who shamelessly ignore tradition are some of the subjects that the Red Lord has to handle on a daily basis. At the same time he has to handle his own family's internal affairs while mainaining his own ambitions.
