The Rivér Towers

Passing these two monuments of a time long since past, it brings me a thought of what might have been here before. What happened? Who built them? And why are they the only two remaining pieces left?
— Everam, Teller of Nimenra
The Rivér Towers are two buildings that stands opposite of each other on the shore of Vieavon. They are old, built in grey and white marble stone. Many tales exist about the two towers, that they once were the centre of a large settlement, that they were gates to a country that has since been forgotten or that they are the remnants of another age before humans. What records can tell is that the towers have been standing for as long as written history goes back and people have dared to travel Vieavon.

Architecture

The towers are rectangular in shape and made out of a white marble that is believed to have been transported from the eastern mountains where similar marble is found. Measured the tower are about 18 meters tall and 6 by 8 meters in length and width. They both stand on a constructed foundation that creates a stone wall that extends down the river's edge and ca 30 meters in both directions from the tower and ca 20 meters further inland. The towers show no form of decoration beyond three windows, all of which are blocked off or damaged, and the east-facing side has two protrusions, possibly holders for banners or flags. The towers have doors leading inside facing north and south respectively.

The northern tower

The northern tower stands tall and is the one that does not lean toward the river. The entrance to the tower is damaged after someone with force opened the door. Inside one finds an empty room with the same marble slabs as outside. The first flight of stairs lies as a pile of stone right in front of the entrance. The second floor has been explored but only has dust and what might have been living quarters of some kind. The third floor is inaccessible since the stairs to it have caved in on what once was possibly a storage room. People who travel Vieavon use this tower as a stop for shelter, as it is one of few to not have any dangers or rumours of avoidance to it.

The southern tower

On the southern shore of Vieavon stands the most interesting of the towers. The southern tower leans towards the river, standing at an angle of about 80 degrees. While it looks like it will topple over, it shows no sign of giving away from the foundation that it is a part of. Even most of the marble slabs show no sign of moving away from the construction. Its entrance, for the daring, is locked and even with magic aid has not been opened. The second-floor window, out towards the river has a broken, wood window that many have attempted to throw a hook to but none have succeeded. The six-meter drop scares most people from the attempt to climb it.

A magic enchantment?

Trying as one may to use magic inside the towers, they seem to not. It seems to those that attempt to is thwarted by something that hinders them from using it, from manipulating the magical energy. The strongest point of this is from the south tower where several have tried to use magic to reach the half-open window but failed as magic seem to fade or suddenly stop. None know of anything that can stop magic like this, except strong magical enchantment or curses but to do it at the scale of a building has no human been able to do for the longest of time.
