Wanerian birthdays {English}

Celebrations of birthdays vary from culture to culture among humans of Telamirein. But many of them share characteristics except for the Wanerians. They have quite the variety to their celebration that gets close friends and family together to celebrate the birth of a child but changes as they grow.

Execution

Infant to youth

Celebration of birth is considered a blessing for a family. This tradition is close to what is a Renvaren birthday celebration. Gatherings with offerings of playthings are common and when the child is around the age of ten, the celebration focuses on the oncoming of life of the child with them visiting a seer who looks into them, asking the Gods which of them will be the child's patron. Here the child usually forms a bond to their patron God with a bracelet that they can choose to break at any time to worship another, but it is seen as a bad sign among Wanerians. Many only do so after becoming adults to keep their promise to the God all their youth. Henceforth, the celebration takes a different turn from the age of thirteen.

Teens to adulthood

When their thirteenth birthday comes around, the celebration is different. Wanerians was once a proud warrior and hunter culture and had their children wrestle in a common birthday celebration once a month. This has changed over to one more between families, where a male family member, most likely the father or uncle, takes wrestle the child and afterwards take them on a hunting trip that lasts the equal amount of days as to the second number in their age. This is especially important if their patron God is Rhyn or the old Wanerian God Guvendamir. As they become older, the days increase in numbers up until the age of twenty, when they shall live ten days in the forest and survive. After this trial to adulthood is completed, a grand celebration is organized for them. This usually involves many family members coming over from many different places. Just like Renvaren exams, a lot of drinking is popular for this event and gifts that include tools and advice for the coming adulthood. Between twenty and twenty-five, a celebration is mostly a celebration among close friends and family again.
Adulthood Having proven themselves to be able, celebrations take a new form after the age of 25. To prove themselves, many do contests against their friends as a sign of friendship and their strength at still is within them. Some might also go and give offerings to the Gods for allowing them to survive until their adulthood. Gifts are rarely given, and if given it is family that comes together to give something special. Celebration by ages onward is more of courtesy, involving gatherings with friends and family but not the bigger parties and rituals that they were involved before, now it is their turn to help young children to pass their way to adulthood, until the day they can't.

Participants

The birthday for Wanerians involve the centre of the attention, the celebrated, but many of the rituals surrounding the birthday also involve family, especially the father or other older male member of the family during the hunting trip. Friends become more important during the later years when proof of strength and ability is shown.
