The Glorious Valley

Geography

The Valley comfortably nestled between the Enyakatho and Eningizimu Hills. To the west are the foothills of the Spinal Mountains, where several rivers converge into Indlovukazi Yemifula, the Queen of Rivers. The valley and the river both head east from there, with Indovukasi skirting briefly around the Ukuphuma Basin, until they reach Empumalanga Bay.

Fauna & Flora

The parts of the valley that still beong to the wild are teeming with life. The river itself has a documented seventy-two different types of fish. They feast on mosquitoes, dragonflies, and the mats of waterlilies that flow downstream. In turn they become prey for herons, ducks, alligators, and waterpigs that make their home in reeds.   Along the banks and on the slopes, great groves of mahogany, teak, and rosewood are home to capybaras, anteaters, and ocelots. Ivies and grapevines crawl up their trunks, providing handholds for monkeys as they raid owl and parrot nests for eggs. Sometimes these convenient ladders turnout to be snakes and the monkey in turn becomes dinner.   Higher up, on the northern side, you might find an entrance to an extensive cave system. Inside, tens of thousands of bats make their home, coming out at night to devour the insect population. These are one of the few unexplored areas left on the continent, and the true extents of its ecosystem aren't known yet.

Natural Resources

The Inkazimuloan Navy is built almost entirely out of timber from the valley, but supplies are starting to dwindle.   More steady, and perhaps even more profitable, snowmelt in the Spinal Mountains causes Indlovukazi Yemifula to flood once a year, leaving amazingly fertile ground in its wake. Roughly half of the empire's wealth is grown in these grain fields.   The bat caves produce an terrifying amount of nitrate, which is shipped around the empire and abroad for fertilizer.
