Copaxi
Copaxi are complex colonies of coral-like polyps that develop into anthropomorphic forms. They are native to the planet of Creev. Copaxi have developed calcium rich exoskeletons with elaborate branches that they can use as sensory organs. Several segments have polyps that function as filter feeders for the Copaxi. Other polyps are repurposed into muscle fibers and other specialized tissue.
Over the copaxi’s 40-year lifespan, individual polyps die and are replaced by new individuals, which in turn can grow to address the copaxi’s needs. The Copaxi have unique relationships with gravity. Due to years of terraforming they came from a simple isolated corals to symbiotic anthropomorphic beings. Along with the gained intelligence Copaxi excrete a chemical that stabilizes gravity. Thusly their ancestors are commonly sought for inertial dampeners when constructing star ships.
