Espraksa
Espraksas are a tall and slender avian species that evolved on the icy planet of Skavew. They have a variety of feather colors, ranging from deep-brown and russet to white and gray, depending on the environment in which their ancestors evolved. They have a thick collar of feathers to keep their long, slender necks warm and lengthy antennae-like feathers that extend from the inner corners of their eyes. Males have crests of feathers that extend from the crowns of their heads and are expressive enough to communicate emotion.
Espraksas have a deep spiritual connection to the deities Desna and Weydan, whom they consider to be their parents, unified in a pairing called the Wings. This origin story is reflected in their open, sociable, and free-spirited society, which emphasizes the rule of law, wisdom, and compassion. Espraksa settlements often have shrines dedicated to the Wings.
Espraksas are skilled at surviving in the harsh environment of Skavew and have developed a unique architecture that incorporates their towns and homes high up in the surrounding trees and terrain. They are resourceful and creative, avoiding razing the environment to make way for their settlements. Espraksas are open to the diversity of the galaxy, and they have adapted their towns and homes to accommodate flightless creatures.
Espraksas have a diverse skill set and fill many vocations. They take whatever odd jobs are available to fund their ongoing adventures, and many seek occupations that facilitate exploration, from field scientists to mercenaries. Diversity in skill is a virtue among espraksas, and being good at one skill at the expense of others is seen as a character flaw.
Despite their open and sociable nature, fear and hard decisions are intrinsic to espraksa society on Skavew. The espraksas have had to make tough choices to survive in their harsh environment, and these experiences have shaped their culture and values.
