Hortus

Hortuses are a unique species with a fungal body that is both robust and durable, thanks to the ligaments that fill their interior. Their thick bodies offer excellent defense against kinetic damage, though they are vulnerable to slashing attacks that can sever these cords. Their lethargic ways are well known, and they prefer to keep to themselves, rarely venturing outside the borders of their homeworld, Fuugla.
Hortuses are capable of speech, but their voices are monotone, languid, and drawn-out, which can be frustrating for impatient creatures trying to communicate with them. They have a complex spore-based language that only they can reproduce without the installation of complex augmentations. The caps and stalks of hortuses can take a wide range of forms, with many resembling mundane fungi found on worlds throughout the galaxy.
The hortuses are in conflict with the Entu colonies that also reside on their planet, due to competing resources between the two species. Despite their slow nature, hortuses are resourceful and can adapt to changing circumstances, making them formidable opponents when they need to defend their territory.
