Huitz'Plina

Huitz'plinas are an arboreal species with long, glimmering spines that cover their bodies, except for their face. These spines develop shortly after their birth and become feathery as they age. Their spines can be launched in a defensive assault, which protected them from predators in their evolutionary past. They also have strong, prehensile tails that they use for everyday activities, such as climbing along the canopy and increasing their dexterity and balance on the ground.   Huitz'plinas communicate using a mix of vocal chords and the thumping of their tails in their musical language. Their language is full of idioms based on their glimpses of the future, making it difficult for tailless beings to replicate. They often sing haunting melodies in large choirs that drift down from the treetops.   Some Huitz'plinas hunger for exploration, while others follow fleeting visions of themselves on strange new worlds. They can be found across the galaxy, often bringing with them a petrified Nanit flower blossom to remind them of where they come from. These blossoms vary in color and often become a Huitz'plina's most treasured possession.   While many suspect Huitz'plinas in the galaxy at large serve as spies, there is little evidence to support this theory. Huitz'plinas tend to lack proficiency in most of the technologies that many in the galaxy take for granted, but they are adaptable and take their time to study and understand them.   Huitz'plinas reach maturity around 30 and can live over one hundred years each. Their spines first show signs of color around 15 years of age.
