Obermank

The Obermank are a close-knit, ancient species of primates that have evolved on a low gravity jungle planet. They have spent their entire existence living among the dense canopies of continent-wide jungles, swinging from branch to branch and gliding through the air with adeptness. Their small legs are still capable of locomotion, but they mostly use their arms for movement.   According to their myths, the Obermank were blessed with sentience by a powerful nature spirit who granted them dominion over the skyscraping flora of their native jungles. In reverence to this spirit and her spiritual progeny, the Obermank have nurtured enormous trees through horticulture and magic, molding them into expansive hanging settlements.   Their fur coloration ranges from blond to dark brown, and they are natural omnivores who have become vegetarians by tradition. The Obermank also hold reverence towards other spirits, and some have extended this devotion to include the empire's religion.   Although technology continues to befuddle the Obermank, some have left their villages to explore the wider empire, where they have been exposed to space travel and modern technology. However, many Obermank find the return to a simpler life frustrating and have retreated into a generations-long conversation about the virtue of adapting or rejecting such technology for their own use. Despite this, the Obermank remain a peaceful and harmonious species, deeply rooted in their connection to nature and their devotion to the spirits that govern it.

Swolback

The Obermank species has undergone evolutionary deviations, resulting in distinct variants. One notable variant is the Swolback, which bears a closer resemblance to apes.   Swolbacks are characterized by their impressive strength and bulky physiques. They possess a robust build that contrasts with the more agile and lithe form of the typical Obermank. Despite their formidable appearance, Swolbacks have a laid-back demeanor, with a lifestyle that revolves around eating, sleeping, and wandering through their jungle habitat.   While their immense strength makes them invaluable for tasks requiring brute force, Swolbacks maintain the peaceful and harmonious nature of the Obermank species. They are deeply integrated into the societal structure, often taking on roles that benefit from their physical capabilities while enjoying the simple pleasures of life in their verdant environment.

Canipus

Canipus individuals are distinguished by their incredible dexterity and light, agile bodies, which make them exceptionally skilled at climbing and swinging through the trees of their jungle home.   The Canipus are inherently curious, a trait that drives their exploration and interaction with their environment. This curiosity, however, has also earned them a reputation for being thieves and pickpockets, as their nimble fingers and quick movements make them adept at stealthy activities. Despite this reputation, the Canipus' actions are often driven more by a desire to understand and interact with new objects and beings rather than malicious intent.   Their agility and inquisitive nature make the Canipus valuable scouts and gatherers within Obermank society. They often take on roles that require swift movement and quick thinking, and their exploratory tendencies contribute to the community’s knowledge and resource acquisition. Though their thieving reputation can sometimes lead to misunderstandings, the Canipus are an integral part of the Obermank’s harmonious and nature-centric way of life.
