Barenga

My home is not what it used to be. The streets once filled with life are now empty and filled with destruction. I know it might be idle hope but still I can't help but wish that at least some others of my kind made it out alive.
— Yamaderis
Barenga was a Deep Gnome city deep within in the Lower Realms. It was only recently discovered durin one of the expeditions there. For a long time the Lower Realms were considered too dangerous to explore. But when some ancient Deep Gnome tech was found by adventurers several individuals and nations started to send their own expeditions out. Barenga is one of those great finds.

History

Founding

So far not much has been found about the older history of the Deep Gnome settlements and Barenga is no exception. In general historians do know that Deep Gnomes started to migrate to the Lower Realms after their defeat by the Selefer. It is difficult to pinpoint when exactly the city was founded but it is assumed to have been somwhere between 3000 BF and 2800 BF.

Rise

The state of the city before the fall of the Deep Gnome empire Tanaria, is more clear. During those days Barenga was a center of learning and development housing many research facilities. From the accounts of Yamaderis we know that the city was especially focused on construct research. Yamaderis himself for example created and improved many constructs for mining purposes.   Near the end the technological level of the city was much higher than the world today but still far removed from Prime Asmer technology.

Fall

From external sources we know that around 2658 BF the end of Tanaria was set in motion. This is assumed to have been mostly because of the Narkids, a species which was thought to be extint.   Yamaderis did confirm this theory as he was alive during the attack of the Narkids on Barenga. He managed to lock himself in his lab and activate all attack golems to stop the Narkids. Allthough the Narkids seemed to lessen, Yamaderis dared not venture outside and put himself in cryosleep until his rescue as food was running low.   Since Yamaderis was in cryosleep at this point we do not really know what happened in the final moments of Barenga. We only know that the attack golems are still working and that all Narkids and Deep Gnomes in the region were gone.

Geography

City of Pillars

Barenga was built in a large cave complex with an underground river. The core of the city was placed between five giant cavern pillars. The walls of this core were placed between each of the pillar and each of the pillars itself was used as a lookout tower. The city itself stretched much further away as well up to 2 km past the core. Yamaderis lab was located at these outskirts which is the reason why he could never make it in time to the safety of the core.

Woops this comment remained unanswered it seems :p Yes indeed a shame that their civilization collapsed but luckily a bit more is known now. Yamaderis might even bring some technology back

Feel free to check my new world Terra Occidentalis if you want to see what I am up to!
