Oh Alikor travel with these kind souls on your journey to the sea. They will be your guide so that in the end you can all rest in Asterhia's embrace. — Lightflow speech
Lightflow is a tradition common in most
Aina communities. At its core it is a celebration of love between two gods, the mountain god Alikor and the water goddess Astheria. But eventually it also evolved into a tradition that pays homage to those that passed away during the year. When this event occurs the rivers are bathed in light.
River of light
Myth and Tradition
Due to their respective domains they rarely see eachother. Once a year Alikor comes down from the mountain through the rivers to stay a week with Astheria in the sea. To aid his journey Aina Elves put small boats with lights on the river to show the way.
At first this was done only to celebrate the love between the two gods. But in many Aina communities the boats became dedicated to those who passed away during the year. In addition to the lights they put personal belongs of the deceased on the boats before letting them flow down the river. Once this fleet of light reaches the ocean it is believed that Astheria thanks the souls who helped bring her love to her and sends them off to the afterlife.
Variations
Originally this used to be done only by the Aina living in the mountains. However, over time many of the Aina were forced to migrate closer to the sea. In some of these communities it Lightflow still exists but is solely dedicated to celebrating Astheria.
Aw, what a beautiful tradition. I love that it has evolved from a celebration of love to encompass the love of those who have passed on too.

Thank you! I though it was a beautiful way to cherish those who are gone as well :)
