Tales and Tallows - 3rd Hearthfire
No other holiday divides the people like the 3rd of Hearth Fire. A few of the oldest, more superstitious folk do not speak all day long for fear that the evil spirits of the dead will enter their bodies. Most citizens enjoy the holiday, calling it Tales and Tallows, but even the most lighthearted avoid going out at night, for everyone knows the dead walk this night. Only the Mages Guild completely thrives on this day. In celebration of the oldest magical science, necromancy, all magical items are half price today. There is more than the chill of fall in the air on this day, as the wind seems to whisper a name which cannot quite be heard. Black cats and ravens spy in the daylight, as if making ready for some impending arrival. When the sun finally sets, the night air comes alive as the spirits of the dead fly unseen through the darkness, as Nocturnal Herself walks through the veil to bask in the rapture of this night. And yes, on some rare occasions, the dead do find their way into the living world, as ghosts, or as undead. But they are not the thralls of necromancers. On this night, the dead are free to speak.
