The land which the Chimer ruled above ground was shared with the advanced Dwemer below. These twin cultures could not be more at odds spiritually, but were close allies against the perennial threat of the Nords under the leadership of Hortator Indoril Nerevar.
  When it is discovered that the Dwarves had created the colossal mechanical god Anumidium, a massive war breaks out involving several cultures. There are numerous contradictory accounts of the battle, but it ends with the apotheosis of the living Tribunal gods, the death of Nerevar, the global disappearance of the Dwemer, and the transformation of the Chimer into the Dunmer.
