Military: Battle
After centuries of brutal slavery under the heels of the Ayleids, a slave priestess known today as St. Alessia leads the first successful revolt against elves at Sardava Leed. Her victory spirals into open rebellion.
She was aided in legend by a covenant made with the god Akatosh, and commanding in battle her demigod lover Morihaus and the mysterious immortal knight Pelinal Whitestrake. Alessia is also credited with the founding of a new syncretic religion from elements of elven and human faiths, creating the spiritual foundation of a new Imperial culture.
According to legend, their was made possible by a covenant made with the god Akatosh, who erected a firmament around Nirn which restricted the ability of the Ayleids to call on the daedra for aid. This covenant decreed that as long as those of the dragon blood ruled, the Dragonfires would remain lit and the firmament would hold. To seal this contract, He drew a drop of blood directly from His heart, which became the Amulet of Kings, the symbol of the Emperor's right to rule. Her rebellion is also storied to include two supernaturally powerful warriors of legend. Under her command was her demigod lover Morihaus Breath-of-Kyne, with whom Alessia was said to spawn the Minotaur race, and an immortal and fanatic knight known as Pelinal Whitestrake who slew the elven demigod Umaril the Unfeathered before he was tragically ambushed and pulled apart by the surviving Ayleid kings while he was still weak from battle. These figures are steeped in legend and Second Empire propaganda, with Pelinal himself said to have sworn fealty to Emperor Reman, who would not be born for over two millennia, causing their historicity to be hotly debated in academic circles. What scholars can agree on is the broad strokes of the evolution of Alessia from priestess to mother of the Empire. The initial revolt was a short-lived victory. Knowing that the ayleids would return in-force, Alessia led her people into the highlands of Colovia where she built an alliance of many races to wage a gorilla war against the mighty city-states. This alliance included many kinds of Beastfolk and Goblin-ken. Among the most pivotal allies were the newcomer Nords who were quickly becoming an empire in their own right in Skyrim and had a history of conflict with the elves of that snowy land. Another more difficult, but vital ally were Ayleids themselves. Both rogue agents, and the petty kings of city-states whose political interests rested in toppling the current power structure. In order to maintain peace between the elves and the men under her leadership, one of Alessia achieved her greatest diplomatic achievement: the creation of the Imperial Cult. She promoted worship of the Eight Divines, which combined elements of both elven and human faiths. This new religion created a basis for a new culture for the Nibenese and Colovians who had lost so much of their own identities under slavery, forming the foundation of a new Imperial culture.
