The Trial of Vivec

The deaths of the missing Tribunal Gods are known only to the powerful. The Tribunal's ancient betrayal at Red Mountain is a state secret of the Empire. A hidden trial is held to decide the fate of Vivec: the last of the Tribunal. The trial is hidden from public knowledge by order of the Emperor and Vehk disappears at its conclusion.

Among the attendees of the trial were some of the most powerful mortals of Tamriel. The reigning King of Morrowind. The Emperor. Psyjic monks. Telvanni wizards. Along side some of the finest legal and religious scholars in the Empire.    The trial was chaotic from the start. With the Daedric Prince Sheogorath called as Vivec's defense attorney, it became quickly apparent that even the most powerful men and mer were in well over their heads. The Prince of Madness, a longtime enemy of the Tribunal, readily made a show of the event, but ultimately served his purpose: to cast doubt on the idea that the living gods' actions or motivations could ever be understood by mortal minds.   Another witness was the long-dead Ashlander hero Alandro Sul, who was a friend of the mortals who became the Tribunal, and who spent the rest of his days in exile for speaking out against their sovereignty. The ritual to summon his spirit cost the life of a Khajiit adventurer named Stri'Ker who had to slay the ancient Bosmer mutant King Dead Wolf-Deer. Vivec honored his passing by declaring the holiday Dusk and Dusk.   The final witness of the trial was the Daedric Prince Azura, whose curse and prophecy led directly to the Nereverine's return, and indirectly to the demise of the other two Tribunal gods. It was then that Vehk revealed the true purpose of the trial. To lure the Prince into the open for Their revenge on Her for Her role in the Tribunal's downfall.   The God of Worms arrived just in time to prevent any in the audience from interfering. With the Prince summoned into the mortal realm, Vivec invoked Her Protonymic, Her true name, in order to bind Her to never manifest in the mortal realm again. They executed the prosecutor, declaring the Prince of Twighlight had secretly influenced her soul, and assembled a spear out of the antler of King Dead Wolf-Deer, which was still soaked in the blood of "one of Hers". With Her so bound, They slew the Prince's physical form, banishing Her back to Oblivion.   Before departing while the royals and mystics and gods in attendance stood in shock, Vivec prophisized the imminent downfall of the Empire and proudly admitted to the Tribunal's wrongdoing in the hijacked voice of Sul. With a flourish, the last living god vanished from the world.
