Suhor the Great

Arch-Mage Suhor

Son and heir of Arch-Mage Surosi the Eternal, and nephew of Arch-Mage Tesh the Diabolical. An exceptionally powerful Magi of Air and Storm, as well as a talented Magi of Life. Aided his father in his seizure of power and 453 years of effective rule over Kushar. Formed an alliance of Magi and non-Magi alike, the Defenders of Life, who waged a 101 year war against his uncle Tesh and his Eternal Empire, after Tesh murdered Surosi. Eventually defeated Tesh at the Battle of Skeleton Valley with the aid of a young and powerful Magi named Lucius Ferrum.   Ruled Kushar for 56 years as Arch-Mage Suhor the Great. Gathered an Alliance of Magi and non-Magi to his side against Lucius and his Bringers of Glory at the terrible Battle of the 13 Keys after Lucius attempted to seize power of all existence. Suhor and 12 other Magi, one of each School of Magic, eventually defeated Lucius and bound him beneath a door with 13 Keys, one forged by each of the Magi. Mental characteristics

Personal history

Suhor was born the eldest child of Surosi, a powerful Magi of Heavens. Suhor showed skill in Air and Storm magic from the age of 13, and became a powerful Magi of Air and Storm by the time he was 25. He would also later study alongside his father in their examination in Life Magic. Surosi would later master Life Magic, unlocking the secrets to extended life through this magic. Suhor followed suit not long after, becoming a skilled Magi of Life by the age of 33. Suhor helped his father take over as Arch-Mage, with his father initially becoming known as Arch-Mage Surosi the Experimenter.   Arch-Mage Surosi and the Orazim of Kushar later clashed with one another, with the Orazim feeling that Surosi and his Magi were growing too powerful, and sought to curtail and limit their power. Surosi refused to limit his power, and with the aid of his brother Tesh, his son Suhor and his other Magi allies, he staged a coup, murdered the Orazim. Surosi put the Orazim's young nephew, who ahd always been fascinated by magic, on the throne as a puppet ruler, while Surosi ruled as the true power in the Orazimdom of Kushar. He was already 89 at the time. He would soon become know as Arch-Mage Surosi the Eternal, due to his long life and rule. Surosi would go on to rule for 453 years, dying at the age of 542. Suhor helped him to control and rule Kushar during this time, serving as unfailingly loyal to his father.   Surosi's death was not one of natural causes, he was murdered by his brother Tesh, a powerful Magi of Undeath and Hell. Tesh had also mastered extended life, but did so through Undeath Magic rather than Life Magic. This Magic left Tesh an undead skeleton, but he embraced the aesthetic and the fear and respect it imposed. Tired of waiting for his brother to relinquish his throne, Tesh betrayed and murdered him, proclaiming himself Arch-Mage Tesh the Almighty, and setting about cementing his rule through vast undead armies, establishing what he named the "Eternal Empire", and seeking to dominate all life. Tesh was soon dubbed "Tesh the Diabolical" by his enemies however, a title that stuck and is far better remembered.   Suhor escaped his uncle's attempts to assassinate him and vowed to avenge his father's death, rallying an alliance of Magi and non-Magi against his uncle, and alliance that became known as the Defenders of Life. proved to be an exceptionally powerful Magi of Air and Storm, as well as a talented Magi of Life. Suhor and the Defenders of Life waged a 101 year war against his uncle's Eternal Empire, eventually defeating him at the Battle of Skeleton Valley with the aid of a young and powerful Magi named Lucius Ferrum.   Suhor would take up the mantle of Arch-Mage, and would go on to act as the true ruler of Kushar for a further 56 years. After Lucius Ferrum began to rise up as a threat, gathering forces to his side in a bid to dominate all the world in order to bring about a 'Golden Age of peace and prosperity', and started dabbling in the 'untouchable' Magics of Time and Love, Suhor gathered an Alliance of Magi and non-Magi to his side once again to depose this threat.   Suhor and his Alliance clashed with Lucius and his Bringers of Glory at the terrible Battle of the 13 Keys. Suhor and 12 other Magi, one of each School of Magic, eventually defeated Lucius and bound him beneath a door with 13 Keys, one forged by each of the Magi. Shortly after creating the Key of Storm, Suhor passed away from the injuries he had sustained in the battle, as well as from being drained of all his energy from the complex and powerful magic he had to use to help win the battle.

Sexuality

Bisexual. Said to have slept with numerous beautiful men and women throughout his centuries of life.

Education

Trained by powerful Magi of Air and Storm from the age he was 13. Worked alongside his father Surosi and powerful Magi of Life to learn Life Magic and to help unlock the secrets to extended life. Spent centuries refining his skills, in magic, physical combat, war and leadership alike.

Employment

Served as Prince of Air and Sky while his father was Arch Mage, as well as serving as his father's most trusted commander and adviser after his father overthrew the Orazim and became the effective ruler of Kushar.   Founded and led the Defenders of Life against the Eternal Empire of his uncle, Arch-Mage Tesh the Diabolical.   Took over as Arch-Mage after he eventually defeated his uncle, becoming known as Arch-Mage Suhor the Great. Simultaneously re-established his role as Prince of Air and Storm.   Helped found and served as a prominent leader in "the Alliance", a coalition of Magi and non-Magi alike who rallied together to oppose Lucius Ferrum and his Bringers of Glory.

Accomplishments & Achievements

Considered to be the greatest Magi of Air and Storm of all time. Also a powerful Magi of Life. Still viewed as the greatest Arch-Mage of all time by many, although those who argue that Lucius Ferrum should have been Arch-Mage challenge this view, and some argue that Lilith Ferrum now surpasses him. During his time was one of the more beloved Magi, especially after defeating Tesh the Diabolical. Viewed as a hero by many in his time.

Failures & Embarrassments

Viewed by many anti-Magi as a tyrant and murderer who helped enforce his father's bloody rule and perpetuated it.   Viewed by supporters of Tesh as a lackey to his father and as a weakling for failing to save his father and for having to amass so many allies to finally defeat Tesh.   Viewed by the Bringers of Glory as a traitor against Magic for fighting against Lucius Ferrum and not siding with him, as well as viewing him as weak for having to bring a larger force of Magi and non-Magi alike to finally defeat Lucius and his forces, and even then dying shortly after winning victory.

Intellectual Characteristics

Said to have been interested in learning how to be a better statesman and military commander, as well as a more powerful Magi, but doing so in line with convention for much of his life, tending to be averse to bending rules of experimenting with magic deemed as too dangerous. Never as creative or experimental as his father or uncle, and certainly not nearly as much as his ally turned nemesis Lucius Ferrum.

Morality & Philosophy

Suhor had a strong sense of family loyalty, and worked closely alongside his father during his father's experimentation with the magic of extended life, ascent to the position of Arch-Mage and coup to depose the Orazim and seize control of Kushar. Suhor would state that his reason for doing so was because he loved his father, and truly believed that he would truly improve the lives of all the people of Kushar, and ensure a strong position for the Magi. This strong sense of family played into his anger and fury against his uncle Tesh after he murdered his father, Tesh's own brother, and tried to assassinate him too. Suhor viewed this as a "betrayal of blood".   Suhor did many terrible things to reinforce his father's rule, including massacring rioters, unarmed civilians and children. He stated that this was for the greater good, and out of loyalty to his father. He would later express some contrition for this, but never all that much. While Suhor was happy with serving and wielding power, he was never as ambitious about seizing it. He served his father loyally, and would likely have done so until his father eventually died or gave up his power. He deposed his uncle out of a sense of vengeance and duty rather than personal ambition, and took over the position of Arch-Mage out of a sense of duty. It is reported he even intended to give up the position to Nxasana after they defeated Lucius Ferrum together, and that he offered it to Anorus instead in order to secure his support against Lucius. His death, as well as Nxasana's, shortly after the defeat of Lucius, meant that this action was never actually tested however.   While Suhor tested the limits of Magic, both granting himself extended life through Life Magic, and through becoming and exceptionally powerful Magi of Air and Storm, he never interfered with the 'untouchable' Magics of Time and Love. Lucius's decision to do so played a major role in Suhor helping build the Alliance against him, viewing him as a threat to the very fabric of reality.

Taboos

Suhor refused to try master more than two Schools of Magic, viewing studying more than two as opening oneself up to too much power, and therefore too much possibility for madness. He was always stern about never interfering with the 'untouchable' Magics of Time and Love.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Suhor motivated for much of his life to help his father, Surosi. After Suhor's uncle Tesh murdered his brother Surosi, Suhor became consumed with the desire to avenge his father's death. He was further driven by a sense of duty to prevent Tesh from coming to dominate all life, refusing to allow his uncle to achieve this nefarious aim.   Once Suhor defeated Tesh and became Arch-Mage, he has motivated more by a desire to try ensure the best life possible for the people of Kushar, while also maintaining the control and influence of the Magi. It seemed likely he would step down from his position however, and may have wanted to pass on after so many centuries of conflict.   The rise of Lucius Ferrum halted any such plans however, and Suhor spent the last years of his life moving to defeat Lucius, both to prevent his will to seize power of the world (with Lucius stating he intended to bring about a Golden Age in doing so) and as Lucius had begun dabbling with the 'untouchable' Magics of Time and Love. Suhor viewed Lucius as a threat to the very fabric of reality, and so moved to try end this threat once and for all.

Savvies & Ineptitudes

Said to have been a great bass singer with a deep and powerful voice. Said to have never understood or grasped sarcasm over his entire centuries long life, often left utterly confused by those who used it in front of him.

Likes & Dislikes

Loved his father intensely. Liked singing and celebrations.   Despised small talk and what he saw as trivial matters. Hated his enemies with a bitter passion.

Virtues & Personality perks

Unshakable sense of duty, intensely loyal, remarkably honest, charismatic and powerful.

Vices & Personality flaws

Blindly fanatical towards his father, could be utterly merciless, authoritarian style of leadership, had a violent temper, bad at taking advice.

Personality Quirks

Said to have a habit of smashing his fist down on tables when angry, breaking more than a few tables over the centuries.

Family Ties

Son of Arch-Mage Surosi the Eternal. Nephew of Arch-Mage Tesh the Diabolical.

Religious Views

Said to have worshiped his father Surosi as a God, both while he was alive and after his murder.

Social Aptitude

Suhor was famously charismatic, known to be talented at giving grand and stirring speeches. He was also very confident, and was popular among many soldiers and commoners alike, men and women alike. He was also generally very popular with Magi, although less so among non-Magi, especially those who tried to resist his father's rule and his and were brutalised as a result.   That said, Suhor is also said to have never understood sarcasm throughout his life, and struggled with the very concept of lying. Suhor remained a very honest man throughout his life.

Mannerisms

Known for shaking his left fist when speaking passionately.

Hobbies & Pets

Enjoyed hunting, dancing, drinking, singing and exercising. Was a very physical and active man.

Speech

Famous for his deep and booming voice. Was prone to grand rhetoric.

Wealth & Financial state

Suhor was born into a wealthy Magi family, and enjoyed wealth for much of his life, especially after Surosi became Arch-Mage, and especially after the coup.   After Tesh murdered Surosi, Suhor was forced to flee into exile after escaping assassination, taking little more than his armour and weapons with him. Slowly rebuilt wealth as he gathered allies to him and the Defenders of Life.   After becoming Arch-Mage he enjoyed great wealth once again. He proved quite a generous leader during his time as Arch-Mage, but held quite a large amount of wealth until the last years of his life, when he used almost all his wealth to help secure the coalition of the Alliance.
