Midarmontar

Midarmontar is the summer harvest festival celebrated by almost all human communities that practice agriculture.

History

The origins of the Midarmontar festival are lost in the mists of time. According to scholars, it is a celebration that took place as early as the first centuries of the imperial era. Its forms and rituals have certainly changed over time and according to latitudes, but invariably the summer harvest is cause for celebration and not only within human communities.

Execution

On this day, the streets and squares of peasant villages are filled with banquets and carts laden with agricultural products. Farmers sell their products, and priests bestow blessings on the harvest and pray for the next year's harvest to be abundant. Street artists perform on village streets and accept payments in food, bards tell stories that entertain children and their parents and musicians make young couples fall in love during dances.

Components and tools

As a rule, a stage is set up in the main square of the settlement if there is no permanent one there. From there, on the day of the festival, speeches may be given by political and religious authorities and sometimes by other personalities, such as heroes, entrepreneurs or artists.
Farmers are allowed to set up stalls or park their carts along village streets and sell their products. Equally, caravans of street performers and gypsies are allowed inside the settlements.
Villages can be decorated with ribbons and banners for the occasion.

Participants

Midarmontar is a peasant festival. However, powerful men often use the occasion to appear in public if they see fit.
Although the festival is not strictly religious, it is normal for priests to take part, especially in small farming villages where their closeness to the peasantry is strongest. Servants of churches connected to nature are more likely to participate in the celebrations.

Observance

The festival is held on the 15th of Harmond. However, in cases of exceptionally bad weather, the festival may be postponed.
