Abyssal Ores

An odd phenomenon that is likely related to the dense stone of the Abyss, small nodes of ore with incredible magic properties can be found nestled within mineral veins in the deep underground of Nocturn.

Material Characteristics

Abyssal metals are mostly identical to their surface variants. The only thing that distinguishes them is an intense, almost pearlescent sheen that is easily identified by attentive eyes.

Physical & Chemical Properties

Perhaps the most useful and apparent property of the abyssal ores is their response to Steel magic. Unlike surface metal, abyssal ore is completely unaffected by ferrous concentration or other means of elemental manipulation. Instead of conforming to the shape being channeled by the user, abyssal metal will actually convert the energy directly into the corresponding ore, generating virtually endless amounts of material. As powerful as this feature may be, however, incredibly large amounts of energy are needed in order to actually generate notable amounts of ore, and is therefore usually only utilized by very skilled ferromancers.

Compounds

Attempts have been made to alloy these ores with other metals, perhaps to alter their generative properties. However, in a manner similar to mercury and iron, abyssal ores are completely incapable of forming alloys. This property does also make all abyssal ores completely pure, a metallurgical quality that is completely impossible to obtain otherwise.

Geology & Geography

Across the Abyss, one can find large veins of ore and minerals. These pockets of metal alone make the abyss worth exploring for resources, though the real reward lies at the heart of some of these veins. Abyssal ore is rarely found in the very center of large ore pockets, differentiated from the the surrounding metal only by its unique gleam.
