Spell Foci
Carrying a spell focus is one of the primary means of enabling and boosting spellpower. These heavily enchanted charms are made to carry enough elemental energy to fuel most common spells.
Requirements
As they need to essentially serve as an auxiliary elemental well, spell foci are usually heavily attuned to a single element. This concerns everything from material to the inscribed rune. While a small size is not a necessity, many people prefer smaller foci such as jewelry or strung charms for convinience.Composition
The most generic spell focus is made up of three parts: A main channel point, a supporting material, and a binding. The channel point is almost always made of metal, and is defined by the rune inscribed upon it. Its purpose is to enhance and store the majority of elemental energy held in the focus, so durabillity is preferred. Supporting materials are possibly the most variable of a focus' parts, with the only requirement being that the material matches the focus' element. Many people choose for these to be present as inlay, beading, or simply just an attached portion. Common materials are different woods, infused glass, or gemstones for those that can afford it. Finally, the binding, which is the part that keeps the whole focus together, can take the form of a string, ring shank, or fabric. The material from which the binding is made of usually doesn't matter, just so long as it doesn't interfere with the effectiveness of other components.
