How to befriend a Baki

Baki have a deep love of gifts, especially food and drink. Fermented drink is their favorite. Most local will leave offerings at their trees but if a traveler truly wishes to befriend a Baki he must first draw them from tree or plant. This can be done by crafting a small mask from pieces of bark that have fallen from the tree. The carving does not need to be skilled. Then the mask is laid at the base of the plant, and an offering placed with it. The traveler should recite the calling of the Baki. If the Baki approves of the offering he will take form, using the mask as part of his body.
From there he may be conversed with normally. It is important to recognize that this is the domain of the Baki and that is it treated with respect, lest he use his ability to curse the caller with misfortune.
