Three Gifts From Our Divine Creator
The
Ehlen, like most Risen throughout the world, have sung the praises of their creator
Elanaah from the time of their inception. Life is a precious gift to their people but it is not the only one that she blessed them with. These three gifts are Lirana, the gift of voice, Brana, the gift of body, and Amanas, the gift of the mind. Although the Ehlen have evolved and adapted into different cultures throughout the world, subcultures based on the idea of these three gifts integrated into the first generations of their kind still hold influence on their behavior and lifestyles.
Lirana represents the gift of voice and speech granted to the Ehlen. This not only represents their ability of speech, but also the ability to share thoughts, stories, and feelings freely with one another. Their voice allows them to connect with others on a personal and emotional level to better understand each other in a way that writing can not express. Orators, singers, and diplomats all fall into this category. The Orator's Forum in
Amaranthine is a common gathering place for those who belong to the Lirana subculture.
Brana represents the gift of the physical body and capabilities granted to the Ehlen. Physical strength and manual dexterity are prized features to be sought after and perfected within the form. The body is a temple for the soul, a gift from the goddess herself, and must be used and maintained diligently. Soldiers, craftsmen, and farmers all associate themselves with this subculture. The Brendelle Swordmaster's Academy in Amaranthine is a popular example of the peak of Brana culture.
Amanas represents the gift of the mind and ability to think freely granted to the Ehlen. By and large, they still worship Elanaah, however, they value the fact that they are able to form their own thoughts and beliefs surrounding their lives and the world around them. Scholars and Magi are typically found within this subculture. An example of one of their institutions would be the Grand Library of
Symarin.
