The Cryptic Carvings of the Forgotten City
Article submitted to the Temple of Idikai by Rurli Possal, in the year 943 of the Age of Knowledge. Since its writing, there have been 7 other engravings found in the Forgotton City Ruins.
In the ruins of the Forgotten City, among the crumbling buildings slowly being overtaken by ivy, there is a wall. It is as broken as the rest of the city, with only hints as to what its purpose might once have been- an entryway, as evidenced by the archway, but an entryway to what? A home, a temple, a shop? The answer to that question is as lost as what happened to the city itself.
What makes this wall unusual is the engraving near the bottom of the archway. Crarigtol. It is the only written word that has been discovered in all the ruins, and more notable than that, no one knows what it means. It is nonsense in every known language across Noreria, not sharing a root part of the word with anything. It is unlike the naming conventions of any people or tribe, and is a mystery to all who have heard of it.
Among nearby towns, it is not uncommon for groups of young people to travel to the Forgotten City and spend a few days, exploring the ruins. Some believe that if they spend the night in the ruins next to the engravings, the spirits of the city will visit them in their dreams and tell them the meaning of the word. Many believe that this will only happen if they spend the night of Full Dark in the ruins. If anyone has in fact learned the meaning in this way, they have yet to share it with the rest of the world.
