Narrox
Swamburgh's Lord Commander of the Militia, Narrox, was hailed as a Hero of the empire, Exiled back to his backwater home. A true tale of one's journey returning back to one's roots. Born and raised in Swamburgh and being exiled to it.
Narrox is wed to Xerranna the leader of the Imperial War Mage. They had four children: Narinne, Sord, Xabine and Zhed. His father wasn't a warrior like him but a simple blacksmith but boasted lineage to a great hero called Zor the Demonbane also called the Lord of blades. His ancestors were great warriors. His mother died after giving birth to him and his father raised him on his own. He mastered the art of blacksmithing and listed as a militia member for the Swamburgh as in those years Molokkian raiders were a constant threat to the town.
Narrox quickly became a seasoned warrior due to his service. When Fort Valiant was restored due to the rumors that the Marokan Empire were reviving portstones in abandoned outposts within Molokkai. The Empire fearing an invasion, restored the Black Fortress, Fort Valiant. In effect, the fort became a deterrent for raiders and Swamburgh enjoyed lasting peace.
During those peaceful times where the militia was downsizing, Narrox turned to adventuring and had joined a party of adventurers for a few years. There he honed his skill as a fighter, hunting beasts in the wilderness and explored numerous ruins in search of treasure. His adventures led him to the Imperial capital, Akilla where he fell in love with the city and urban lifestyle. He's an outgoing sociable person brimming with confidence and charisma, his back country attitude endeared him to many people including the Emperor Cattar.
He encountered the emperor when he stepped in to save the monarch during an assassination attempt, the near perfect plot was spoiled when Narrox acting on a hunch intercepted the would be assailant and incapacitated him.
Narrox was applying to become an Imperial soldier hoping to become an Imperial Knight one and the emperor was to evaluate the candidates in a rare chance. It was lucky for the emperor Narrox was there and with his keen observation and swift actions brought the assassin down.
Least to say that impressed the military officials and recruiters greatly, having high hopes for Narrox they gave him a chance. Meanwhile the emperor asked Narrox for a private audience with him alone.
Narrox was at the time a bit of a country bumpkin was not used to seeing nobility much less the emperor was unaware of the protocols of conduct and treated him n a casual manner, much to the chagrin of the court. However the monarch rather enjoyed that annoyance and appreciated the innocent and refreshing non formal attitude of Narrox towards him. As a reward for saving his life, the king announced that he would receive a medal of honor for his action and the right, permission to act casually in his presence. The ministers protested so the emperor allowed it only in not in public.
Earning the friendship of the emperor had its benefits and disadvantages as well as he quickly gained enemies early on his career, mostly nobles vying for the emperors favor.
During his service he quickly rose within the ranks due to his prowess and exceptional leadership skills, he was a very capable in combat and exhibited courage and cunning in battle. Narrox had excellent planning skills and foresight as well as an unparalleled sense of justice. He is very perceptive and likes to think ahead a few steps.
He was also very cautious and never without a backup plan. those qualities endeared him further to emperor Cattar who is also seeking trustworthy friends outside the court. At the height of Narrox's career, He was promoted to 1st rank knight, a rank that is almost on par with knights with peerage. By then he was a well respected by his fellow knights and their men.
He had by then countless battles in numerous campaigns. It also earned him an number of enemies within the royal court. He survived a number of assassination attempts as well. That gradually made him disenchanted with the internal politics within the capital. His time in service in the capital let him experience the realities of living in a big city. But as always he found a way to adapt and survive.
During military briefings and planning, when asked to provide mission plans he would always draft plans that minimizes casualties for both sides. However whenever the War mages would be involved he would clash with their praetor Xerranna. She would criticize Narrox's strategy as being inefficient and roundabout as she would prefer to just charge in and dispatch the enemies.
At the time, mounting dissent were the common problems in the empire where certain domain would demand autonomy and tended to rebel. The Arganian law is strict when it comes to rebellion as it warrants capital punishment. However in Narrox's view, people are not always guilty of it and most were only decived or pressured to commit the act and deserved a second chance.
Xerranna disagrees with his view stating that the law must always be followed otherwise civilization is meaningless and the offenders must be punished according to the law.
The two really have a stark contrasting viewpoint and seemed to really hate each other but both respected one another in spite of their differences. In some ways both of them were correct.
in 2619 AGR the two worked together for the first time as co leaders but Xerranna's role were covert. I gave them time to really get to know each other fully and fell for each other. This resulted in their 1st born Narinne in the winter of 2620 AGR. Due to circumstances, they were stranded in the norther border and took around six months before they were able to return.
In an unusual turn of events after the successful Battle of Mirkwood, Narrox was exiled back to Swamburgh while Xerranna would sit at as a member of the council of mages. Xerranna was furious but Narrox urged her to fulfill her role in that higher office as he thinks it would be best to observe and find the real enemies within the Imperial court. Xerranna made arrangements to be able to travel back and fourth from the imperial capital to Swamburgh. With great effort and peril she managed to obtain the ability to teleport between those vastly separated places.
When back in Swamburgh he initially revived their old forge at Valiant Hill and eventually started forging again. His products were superb and was highly sought after. He then inevitably asked by his old friend and war buddy Brenn the local commander of the militia, to replace him eventually as his declining health is impeding his performance. He agrees and laments the lack of capable clerics that can heal him, as doctors can do only so much. Brenn died the following year.
Spring of 2623 AGR Sord was born with his growing family he decided to upgrade his forge by adding couple of bedrooms, a kitchen, bathroom and indoor plumbing, making the forge into a respectable home. Xerrana on the other hand started construction of a larger home in Swamburgh. Narrox was delighted since he thought Xerranna wanted to grow their family with more children. He wasn't wrong. Xerranna wanted a big family.
And grew it did by autumn of 2625 AGR, they had another girl they named Xabinne and two years later another boy named Zhed was born.
The northern border was relatively peaceful during those times so Narrox and Xerranna went on adventures, they created a party called The Greymalkin Adventurers. Sord would use the same name for his party called the Greymalkin Explorers in the future.
Tales of their adventures were sung by bards all around the empire and are celebrated by the citizens. Children of the empire dream of becoming like Narrox and Xerranna.
