Lord Darish
Warden of War
The Crushbone Warlord is one of the most powerful orcs in the city. Lord Darish controls the army, dictates battle plans, leads attacks, and answers only to Emperor Crush. Darish achieved this position through personal strength and excellent military leadership. If anything, the fact that he was the current Crush's son was a disadvantage, for Darish had to prove to everyone that his promotion to Warlord was not mere favoritism. No one has made that accusation for several years — the last orc to do so is now part of hundreds of new Crushbone belts.
Darish was an excellent tactician, but he was not very patient. This proved to be his downfall when he took a small skirmishing party to raid Emerald Outpost in 5400. He wanted to attack the Wood Elves at Kelethin and rid the forest of them once and for all. Then, he wanted to move on Felwithe and destroy the High Elves there. He kept formulating plans and presenting them to Emperor Crush, but the certainty of success was always too low, the cost if they lose too high. Emperor Crush did not discourage his Warlord from continuing, however — he rejected each plan in turn, explaining why it would not work, but never told Darish to give up. It had become a game of sorts, and both Orcs were happy to continue it.
What Darish was not happy about was Warden Bonefire, who constantly tried to usurp the Warlord's command, claiming that she needed more Orc soldiers for defense — especially since, as Bonefire was fond of pointing out, Darish was not actually leading the army to battle any time soon. The two Orc leaders butted heads frequently, always jockeying for the Emperor's favor and support.
Darish was very exacting in strategy and careful with his weapons; he was meticulous about staying in fighting trim and with producing and writing new tactics and stratagems. Despite this, he was anything but careful on the battlefield, and was prone to berserk rages that make him even more dangerous but can also pose a risk to his own soldiers. The Orcs under his command did not see this as a drawback, however — if anything, they live in awe of their warlord's personal strength and of the power of his rage. They just know to admire it from a safe distance.
Lord Darish was a tall, muscular orc with deep green skin and a thick beard and topknot. His toothbands were worn wrapped around his neck like a collar, and he wore little armor, relying on his unusually tough skin to protect him, which it does quite well. At his side were his favored weapons, a large axe and an even larger axe, both of dwarvish make and one exceptionally magical. He always rides into battle on a vicious warg.
