The Search for Caliburn

Studying the journal of an unnamed historian   Artorius Castus Pendragon born to one of the Order of Holy Knights that followed King Sebastian Crennic, Ruler of Edania (Andoran), Artorius was raised by his mother Angelica until he was old enough to be a squire at the age of 11, While he of course served his father directly he acted as squire to the whole squad of holy knights that fought alongside his father. He admired each of them. Bors, a grizzly man who held vices second only to his loyalty to his fellow knights. Tristran, the quiet type who revered the cycle of life and death and paid respects to every one he met in battle offers prayers to those he killed. Galaad, while a superior knight wished for nothing but a life of peace who always looked to the horizon of better days. Daqan, if Tristran is the quiet type Daqan is practically mute. a knight who carried the weight of the world on his shoulders with stoicism, but opened up to Artorius more than most with short talks of the importance of responsibility to future generations, lastly his father, a natural leader and man who would sacrifice his life for any other person to protect the freedoms he believed inherent to all living beings.   Artorius learned great truths of life and sought their wisdom as he grew, he was the embodiment of all the good that the knights had to offer. By the time he was a man and knight in training, Artorius was devout, passionate, sacrificing, honorable and championed the facets of personal freedom. Serving the aged King Crennic, as the eldest of the newest generation of knights. Young men from all over the country and beyond, from Vridora (Korvosa of Varisia), Kunata Province (Mwanga Expanse) and Gremore (Qadira) eager to serve in the well known Order of the Holy Knights. Galahad, Deairmuut, Gawain, Morganne, and her brother, Mordred. All of them acted as his soldiers that defended the borders of Edania, as they were tasked by King Crennic, and occasionally being sent on raiding missions to preemptively strike at a growing assault force.   The group, over 15 years, became living legends to the citizens of Edania. Each bringing devastating skill to the battlefield to come out on top when all odds were stacked against them. Morganne was a wizard of great skill, crafting magnificent weapons for the knights, Mordred the older brother of Morganne, a sword-mage terrorizing the enemies with slashes of fire and stabs of lightning. Deairmuut, a dual spear style master, moved faster than man could see it was said, his honor in battle being the only thing that mattered to him. Then came the betrayal.   Mordred had secretly harbored hatred for Artorius after Guenivere had come into his life. Guenivere was the heiress to the neighboring Kingdom of Camhalott (Andoran), and with the marriage of the two Artorius was crowned king. Jealously burned in his heart and eventually his hate culminated in a plan to kill Artorius and the knights. As one of his three advisers next to his sister and Deairmuut, he would succeed him and rule as he saw fit, forcing Guenivere to marry him. Mordred delved deep into the dark arts of magic and amassed a large force, large enough to distract the warriors of Camhalott so he could enact his treachery in person with elite summoned devils.   The frontal attack was a success, undead, lesser devils and evil men alike crashed against the forces of Camhalott, the battle resulted in the death of most of Artorius' knights. Only four remained, himself, Morganne, Deairmuut, and the betrayer Mordred. Up in the castle and caught of guard Mordred attacked Artorius and Deairmuut with their armor and gear the battle surely lost Mordred saw victory, but his sister, cloaked with magic ran an ice ax through his chest the fatal wound gave Artorius the chance to look upon his former friend, he cursed him then drove his blade through his chest, giving a more merciful death than he deserved.   The rule of King Arthur was a time of peace and prosperity, He was loved by his people as he loved them, he served with distinction giving great freedoms to his people and they revered him in return. but all good things can't last. Camhalott was taken under siege by an invading army, known as the Horde, from both the north and the west. and though Edania was supporting them in the bloody war the enemy force was too great. They blitzed through much of the kingdom and were impossible to uproot. then the tragic fall of the King happened at the Battle of Camlann, a province on the northern border. King Arthur had been struck by a wicked blade by a commander of the enemy, it was a blade meant to cause pain. made of red crystal that sapped the life out of its victim and meant to be broken off so that it cant be removed. Deairmuut like wise was being overtaken by the horde, Morganne was at the last of her power. The three died on that battlefield, the sight of their fallen royal court spurred the men on with fury and vengeance, the battle was won by Artorius' men, but with the kingdom now leaderless hope was gone.   The Horde continued to carve away at Camhalott. Artorius, Morganne and Deairmuut were taken to the castle and from there Guenivere escorted her husband and friends to Edania and made arrangements to bury them as they had discussed. From here the history gets blurred as records were destroyed or lost or rewritten, the horde settled in more than half of Camhalott the razed the castle to its foundations. It was unclear as to why the Horde had done such a thing, and Lady Guenivere made a single reference to the place she laid her husband as Avalon.   I have yet to discover the the truth behind Avalon or where it is but i am sure there is a trail to follow that will lead me to this great hero's tomb. But i am running out of time. my old bones can't carry me like they used to...
