Dandelions

Basic Information

Ecology and Habitats

Dandelions prefer to live in moist areas with full sun and space to spread out and form large groups known as prides.

Dietary Needs and Habits

These ferocious little flowers enjoy eating a wide variety of insects their favorite being honey bees and yellow-jackets. When they aren't moving, they looking exactly like regular dandelions. They wait for a delicious bee to come close, searching for sweet nectar. Once the bee lands the Dandelion opens it's mouth and chomps.

Behaviour

Dandelions aren't super friendly to others but luckily are too small to do much harm. If for some reason you accidently try to pick one they do bite, their teeth are sharp enough to draw blood. So watch out for your fingers and toes! As they don't enjoy people walking into their territory. When a dandelion roars it sounds very much like a large and in charge lion, travelers new to Faemoria are often scared away by the noise. Sent running in the opposite direction, the little beasties use this as almost a warning sign when someone gets too close. A lot of the time though it's done as a prank that only the Dandelions are in on.
Dandelions are curious creatures with a deep love for sweets. They become a menace to travelers who camp near their fields as they are good at sneaking up and stealing potential delicious snacks from traveler's bags. Sometimes if a group of 12 or more begin to purr at the same time, any creature nearby gets over come by a wave of drowsiness and some cases fall into a magical slumber.

Civilization and Culture

History

Faemoria: A land created by a surge of magic escaping a conflict between the sibling gods. It’s wild and chaotic in nature and some of the most extreme forms of magic can be found here. Everyday occurrences can have intense magical consequences if one is not too careful. Example: Chaldera Mosscrystal queen of all Fairies, when she was just a small child wandered off alone while momentarily unattended during a full moon festival. No one could find her for the rest of the night; her mother, then Queen Lapis Mossycrystal was not in the slighted bit worried. She knew young fairies needed to go on their own adventures , especially those expected to be queen. They would learn more about life during their own magic ventures, than anything a parent could teach them.
Chaldera Mossycrystal- Queen Of the Fairy Lands     sIt turns out Chaldera didn’t really do much adventuring, she wandered off into a beautiful field illuminated by the moonlight. Once she realized she was lost she sat there and cried until she felt tired and then laid in a soft patch of comfortable tall grass. She slept until morning but had the silliest dreams of funny looking animals that kept her from being too sad. She dreamt of strange duck beavers, butterfly snakes , cat-dogs and of course daneLIONS.   sWho knows why out of all of those the dandelions stuck, but when the little fairy princess woke the next day the field she fell asleep in was completely filled with these special “Dandelions”. Hundreds of years later dandelions are still going strong, adorable little menaces to the people of Faemoria.   sWhen Chaldera was made queen, she created the Dandelion festival, a festival dedicated to the little besties, which includes the cooking and eating of sweets and dancing all day. At the end you share your sweets with the dandelions! Which does nothing to help with the problem of them stealing and eating travelers sweets and snacks in the middle of the night. But who cares! Chaldera doesn’t!
