Beware the Forest Folk

Little child, you should fear the forest gloom
For if you enter, you may face your doom.   Heed the well-worn paths and do not wander
For should you stray, your fate left to ponder.   Beware the whispers asking you to play
For the forest folk will insist you stay.   Do not chase fay lights within woodland deep
For once there, you in their grasp they will keep.   Beware of those who offer food and drink
For should you accept, loved ones' hearts will sink.   Fain be polite, but never say, "Thank you"
For your words they twist, a debt they think due.   If they ask your name, give it not in full
For if given, over your soul have pull.   Be honest - do not attempt to deceive
For they know and their ire you will receive.   Refuse gifts of trinkets offered with glee
For the forest folk give nothing for free.   Little child, you should fear the forest folk
Remember well these warnings I have spoke.
