Gnoll Pass
The Gnoll Pass is a winding trail along the Mountain Ride Road north of Arabel in Cormyr as it passes through the Storm Horn Mountains. It is a winding road that climbs up through the rolling hills and mid-way through mountain peaks of the Storm Horns, before beginning its long descent into the plains on the north side of the mountains on its way to Tilverton. The pass is named for the many years of ambushes by gnolls and other goblinoids that would use areas on the pass to ambush unwary travelers and caravans traveling along the mountain pass.
It is still a dangerous path due to occasional raids by goblinoids or giants from the mountains or Stonelands, but is now heavily patrolled by the Purple Dragon’s of Cormyr from Castle Crag. The south side of the pass on the western mountain has a large, fortified Purple Dragon watchtower with a number of Purple Dragons ready to assist caravans in danger of attack from marauders. From the tower, Purple Dragons can see much of the south side of the pass until it dips down to the northern side of the mountains, the most dangerous part of the pass.
