Vashana

Vashana is the goddess of darkness and arcane studies. She was once a mortal woman. Vashana is primarily worshipped by the Drow. Though her influence had spread on the surface as well, the Rending caused a backlash to her worship and many of her surface shrines and temples were destroyed or vandalized.   Her symbol is a silver star set with a black stone. Her animal messenger is the Midnight Raven, typically only found at the Sky Gate of Taureluum.

History
Prior to the Age of Arcana, the Drow lived deep in the Underdark. There, where seasons do not exist, the skies cannot be seen, and even tree roots cannot reach, the Drow felt abandoned by the gods. As dangers grew in the depths, a woman named Vashana sought an answer to their woes. Over the years, she unraveled the mysteries of the Weave, learning how to manipulate it without the blessings of the distant gods. Though she grew in power, the dangers of the Underdark did as well. Vashana convinced the elders of the Council to move the dwindling Drow population closer to the surface and she sealed the tunnels behind them. This lead to the formation of the city of Taureluum. Vashana began to teach the other Drow to use Arcane magic. Once her school was properly established, she left Taureluum and travelled the surface, despite the pain of the unending daylight, teaching any with a thirst for knowledge. One day while Vashana was teaching, the goddess of knowledge took a humanoid form to sit in on one of her lectures. The Drow woman and the goddess became close friends, bonded by the love of knowledge and learning. So when eventually Vashana's teachings led to her death, Shaemora sacrificed much of her power to keep her friend by her side as a deity. In sacrificing her power, Shaemora's light faded from the sky, creating night.
