King Valentyn the Silent dies young with no official heir. Three factions splinter off, one backing each of his teenage sons, and a civil war ensues.

King Valentyn the Silent dies at the age of 36. With his early passing, none of his three teenaged sons are married, and thus there is no official heir. The political landscape is shattered and each of the three sons is married into different noble families that seek power. Queen Anna flees to Taureluum and secretly gives birth to Valentyn's fourth and youngest son. A two-year-long civil war breaks out, reducing much of Highvault and the surrounding territories to ash. Seeing the devastation that her sons' war has caused, Queen Dowager Anna enlists three shadow elf mages to assassinate her sons. When the dust settles, the Dowager Queen returns to Highvault and declares her youngest son, Valentyn II, the king. The kingdom is weary from the war and only the weakest objections are voiced. She rules for fifteen years until Valentyn II comes of age and marries.
