Gorgob
History
Originally Gorgob didn’t have a name, and rather was a system devised originally to easily communicate short commands from a battle master during a war. These commands where as simple as “Attack”, “Retreat” and the like, but over time as Goblins became more and more subjugated and hunted, Gorgob developed into a more ‘advanced’ language and was named after Gobgor; the legendary military strategist Hobgoblin that came up with the language. Rather than just calling the language Gobgor, to avoid confusion with other Goblin names that start with “Gob”, the language rather switched around the pronunciation to now be Gorgob.
Even though the language is relatively simple, many other races are unable to speak Gorgob without magic, as the noises Goblins produce to speak the language are so precise only their voice boxes are capable of making the sound. This created a further stigma that Gorgob is a savage language that only savages could speak. Alongside this, if a non-Goblin attempted to speak Gorgob without proper training, the Goblins would be able to tell as they would have an “accent”, which is why when attempts of false communication during war took place, Goblins despite their lower intelligence where not fooled.
Gorgob has developed and spread far over time, used alongside other languages to better communicate over long-distances and have secretive communications. Iterations of Gorgob have developed as well, with certain guilds such as The Black Hand utilising a similar short sound based communication during member missions. Of course, as Gorgob is a ‘Goblin’ language many of these are places and races won’t admit to the origin of their versions.
