The Kiriroiyama Crisis (金色い山危機, Kiniroiyama Kiki), was a political crisis in the Colonial Leteiran Cluster within the Japanese Colonization Zone. Starting on the planet of Kiniroiyama, it would later spread out to several surrounding planets and settlements before ultimately being supressed.
Background
Due to strategic considerations within the Leteiran Cluster, residents of the Leteiran Cluster were often afforded less rights than those within the Orion Arm. Additionally, much of the industrial power of the Cluster was focused on military matters, as the vital natural resource extraction operations within the Cluster combined with the extreme distance between the cluster and the Orion Arm caused many nations to dramatically militarize the cluster. This often resulted in long hours, forced overtime, low pay, and poor safety conditions.
These factors came to a head with Directive 1109.22, which mandated increased working hours in response to perceived aggression by the Russian and Indian colonial government. Most military factories would expand operating hours, filling the time by expanding already long 8 hour shifts into 10 and even 12 hour shifts in some circumstances.
Resistance at the Kellberg Industrial Plant
The first factory to resist the directive was the Kellberg Industrial military plant in _ city in the north of Kiniroiyama. On October 19th, the date that the edict came into force, the workers went to and left work as if their schedule had not changed. While this occured largely without incident the first time around, the local authorities were notifiied and the second night military police were stationed outside the factory to prevent workers form leaving their shifts early. When workers attempted to walk out the second day, the police and army attacked and the workers retreated into the plant. The plant's workers would then barricade the plant, leading to a siege of the facility.
News of siege would spread around the Leteiran Cluster. On nearby systems, sympathy strikes would start at military and non military industrial facilities, even spreading beyond the Japanese sector at points. Attempts by planetary governments to contain the growing wave of strikes would eventually stretch local police forces thin on most planets.
Response by the Colonial Government
By the time that the siege had begun, the colonial government had begun to take notice. On October 22nd, the governor's office requested a report from the local government as to the status of the plant. The report would return to the governor's desk on the 25th, where they then deemed Kellberg to be of extreme strategic value and recommended that local police work with military elements to assault the plant.
Effects
Legacy
Within the Leteiran Cluster the Kiniroiyama Crisis, there called the Kiniroiyama Uprising, is commonly considered to be one of the first acts of resistance against the agressors of the Orion Arm. This is to the point that October 20th was established as a public holiday within the Leteiran Commonwealth, and many of the Commonwealth's former territories, especially those around Kiniroiyama itself.
