The Pan European Mall is an entertainment complex in Brussels in the European Federation. The Pan European Mall is major tourist destination in the Galactic south.
History
The initial plans for the Pan European Mall were formulated by the European Federation in the late 2200s. The Mall was formulated as a means to help unify Europe by creating one central instiutions where all Europeans could work and play. The plans were to build the Mall in Brussels due to its historical role in housing the seat for many other Pan European Institutions such as the European Union.
The plans were finance through a bond measure passed by the European Federation as well as some debt that the Federation took on. The Mall broke ground on April 12th, 2256. Construction would continue for the next 30 years. But, the first segments of the mall would open up shortly after construction started in July 23rd 2259. The completed first phase would open to the general Februray 19th, 2288. The mall has continued to see expansion since its construction, with the addition of residential complexes and civil services causing the mall to eventually morph into a self contained city.
Ammenities
The Pan European Mall hosts over 10,000 available store fronts and a permanent population of roughly 15,000. But, daytime visitors for work or leisure can bring this number well above 40,000 people. To support this volume of people, the mall hosts its own metro system connected to the Brussels Metro system, as well as its own dedicated high speed rail and train stations. In addition to store front and transportation, the Mall has several public parks, a small hospital to support its residents, and its own waste and pumbling system largely distinct from the overall Brussels system. The mall also has its own internal freight rail system to get products to the vendors of the mall.
Almost no private vehicles are allowed within the mall, and the large pedestrianized area makes it the largest single area solely dedicated for pedestrian use in the Orion arm.
