Joe (a.k.a. Bones)
When Joe was a young man, he went out into the world to find his fortune. He didn't want to become a farmer like his father, and his father before him.
He wanted adventure! Mystery! Wealth! Fame!
He got some of those things, just not in the manner in which he had hoped.
While exploring a ruin, he accidentally activated a numenera. When Joe emerged 50 years later, a mask fashioned in the form of a skull without a jaw was affixed to the front of his head. This mask or something inside his head created the illusion of darkness around his head. His jaw was gone, but he could still somehow speak. For all intents and purposes Joe seemed to be a normal human with a strange mask... that didn't need to eat anymore. He found that donning wide-brimmed hats disguised some of his affliction, the brim of the hat providing a reason for the inky darkness that surrounded his head.
When he returned home, it was to a village that no longer existed. Destroyed in the Undying War, Joe spent the next few years wandering. He wanted a place out of the way that he could call home. After his adventure, all he wanted was to return to his roots and start a farm, or an orchard.

General Physical Condition
An average height man with a bit of a beer belly, Joe looks relatively normal. As long as you're not looking at his head.
Many years ago an accident with a numenera changed Joe's face quite drastically. He seems to be wearing a skull mask made of synth or bone that has fused with his face. Additionally, his jaw is no longer present -- he doesn't have a mouth. Yet he is still able to talk just fine; he doesn't need to eat anymore though.
Joe's head is surrounded by a faint nimbus of darkness. When he wears a hat ( particularly his favorite wide-brimmed hat ) the nimbus is barely visible, hidden by the shadows of his hat. Otherwise it's quite noticable.
A regular person who had a run-in with a numenera when he was younger.
