Dragonborn

Dragonborn (also known as Dracnik in Draconic) are a race of draconic creatures originating from Ebbir. The dragonborn first emigrate to Edora in 714 following the scriptures of the Drakonica Exodia. Out of the hundreds of dragonborn clans, each with a unique color and features, only 8 managed to cross into Edora, most of them settling in Amadel Mountains in an area that is now known as the Dragon Lands.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Standing on average around 6 feet and 2 inches to 6 feet and 8 inches (1.9 to 2 meters), dragonborn are impressively tall with a heavy weight to match, commonly possessing a weight of 220 to 320 pounds (100 to 150 kilograms). Dragonborn feet end with three strong talon-like claws with a fourth claw in the back, while their hands are similar with three claws and a thumb replacing the rear claw. Their heads feature a blunt snout, a strong brow, and reptilian frills on the cheeks and ears. On the back of the head, a crest of hornlike scales forms what resembles a mess of ropy hair.   Dragonborns exhibit many draconic features, including a scales, muscular bodies, and resistance to the same elemental energy of their breath, depending on their subrace. This is attributed to their draconic heritage although it is unknown if dragonborn are true descendants of dragon or merely their creation. While dragonborn hatch without wings or tails, some may grow those body part during their lifetime, even as adults.

Growth Rate & Stages

Newly hatched dragonborn grow at an impressively rapid rate, much faster than most other races, reaching the equivalent maturity of a human child of 10 by age 3. Dragonborn are born toothless and remain such for several months before teeth begin grow, by the time they are 4 months old they have a sharp and dangerous set of jaws that will serve them for their entire life. Draonborn's body reaches maturity both in height and appearance between the ages 12 and 14, this is also when most dragonborn can finally make a proper use of their breath. At the age of 15 dragonborn are considered adults and must take a role in their society.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Dragonborn diet is based mostly around meat, and they consume almost double the amount eaten by other races. When dragonborn do not have access to meat they will instead go for other food sources such as nuts and berries, but will never depend on them to sustain themselves for long. Foragers and hunters in dragonborn clans are viewed as some of the most vital roles and they enjoy great respect among their peers.

History

Origins and Ancestry

The origin of the dragonborn race is unknown, uncertain and shrouded in myth. Most scholars agree that the dragonborn are not related to dragons, at least not in the biological sense. Dragonborn scripture is vague on their creation and very little of their history survived their exodus through their former plane to Edora. Some dragons claim their counterparts in Ebbir created the dragonborn to be used as their servants and soldiers, and while there is evidence to them being enslaved by dragons once, this is only aforementioned in some religious texts variations.

Hobgoblin Raids

On Edora, the dragonborn have been battling several foes ever since their arrival. At first they had to fend off Hobgoblin raids made by the Hegemony of Xesian. The hobgoblins' mastery of war was so alien that they managed to kidnap and enslave thousands of them during the first years of their arrival. Only when Clan Rysirei finally crossed over the dragonborn where finally able to witsand the hobgoblins' attacks and even push back. Eventually clan Rysirei claimed a sizable portion of the Central Amadels formed the kingdom of Neo Drakonia.

The Dwarven Skirmishes

Unknown to the dragonborn, the land they settled in are located on top of lost dwarven settlements from before the Second Sun . When the ruins where found they where promptly converted and used as infrastructure for the young kingdom and it's surrounding clans, destroying much of it in the process. The dwarves viewed this transgression as an insult to their ancestors' memory. While there was no official declaration of war, both the dwarven kingdoms and the various dragonborn clans regularly send war parties to disrupt the other's control over the Amadel Mountains.

Born of dragons, as their name proclaims, the dragonborn walk proudly through a world that greets them with fearful incomprehension. Shaped by draconic gods or the dragons themselves, dragonborn originally hatched from dragon eggs as a unique race, combining the best attributes of dragons and humanoids. Some dragonborn are faithful servants to true dragons, others form the ranks of soldiers in great wars, and still others find themselves adrift, with no clear calling in life.

Proud Dragon Kin

Dragonborn look very much like dragons standing erect in humanoid form, though they lack wings or a tail. The first dragonborn had scales of vibrant hues matching the colors of their dragon kin, but generations of interbreeding have created a more uniform appearance. Their small, fine scales are usually brass or bronze in color, sometimes ranging to scarlet, rust, gold, or copper-green. They are tall and strongly built, often standing close to 6½ feet tall and weighing 300 pounds or more. Their hands and feet are strong, talonlike claws with three fingers and a thumb on each hand.   The blood of a particular type of dragon runs very strong through some dragonborn clans. These dragonborn often boast scales that more closely match those of their dragon ancestor—bright red, green, blue, or white, lustrous black, or gleaming metallic gold, silver, brass, copper, or bronze.

Self-Sufficient Clans

To any dragonborn, the clan is more important than life itself. Dragonborn owe their devotion and respect to their clan above all else, even the gods. Each dragonborn’s conduct reflects on the honor of his or her clan, and bringing dishonor to the clan can result in expulsion and exile. Each dragonborn knows his or her station and duties within the clan, and honor demands maintaining the bounds of that position.   A continual drive for self-improvement reflects the self-sufficiency of the race as a whole. Dragonborn value skill and excellence in all endeavors. They hate to fail, and they push themselves to extreme efforts before they give up on something. A dragonborn holds mastery of a particular skill as a lifetime goal. Members of other races who share the same commitment find it easy to earn the respect of a dragonborn.   Though all dragonborn strive to be self-sufficient, they recognize that help is sometimes needed in difficult situations. But the best source for such help is the clan, and when a clan needs help, it turns to another dragonborn clan before seeking aid from other races—or even from the gods.
