Pillar of Peace

The Pillar of Peace is the name of a white marble monolith made by an unknown Lodiran artist that is placed in front of the Taldirin's National Library. The monolith is 4 meters tall, and is etched on each face with the same text in four different language; Aderic Dwarvish, Elvish and Gnomish. The monument's title, 'WISDOM IS PEACE, KWONLEGE IS FREEDOM', contains a spelling error and is the subject of much debate in artistic circles.

History

The piece was commissioned in 1392 from an anonymous artist in Dam Lodir by the office of the Arch Duke of Taldir. It was completed and placed in 1395 in front of Taldirin's National Library. The spelling error in the monument's title was uncaught until the monument's unveiling, causing much confusion and embarrassment to the duke.   The reveal of the piece remains one of the most debated subject in some artistic circles and conversations. The artist refused to change the text until his death, claiming the "mistake" was his artistic intent. Furthermore, the artist refused to disclose his detail to the archduchy, always working through an official Lodirian mediator. The artist claimed that the work was to be a gift of the Lodirian people by the Lodirian people, and that either attaching their name to the piece or "fixing" the stone would diminish from its purpose. Others claim the artist was simply not versed in Aderian, the language the title was written in, and was too proud, maybe even amused, to fix his mistake.   A letter telling of the artist death arrive at Taldirin in 1472 with a request that the Archduchy will preserve the memorial as it is currently stand. The exact name and details of the artist are kept at the Archive of Dam Lodir, but are not accessible to the public.
