Wherehopper
A wherehopperis an interplanar migratory subspecies of grasshoppers that similarly to their brother species, seem to have originated from Otherwhere.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Wherehoppers are significantly different and considerably larger from all other grasshopper species, and are the only bipedal in the group. They have an extremely tough exoskeleton that is used as armor and can be completely sealed in case of submersion or extraplaner travel.
Genetics and Reproduction
Wherehoppers reproduce by laying eggs. Their society is neither patriarchal nor matriarchal, with the major sex in dominance over their swarms. Stragenely, the less members there are of one sex, the larger the the opposite sex members become.
Additional Information
Average Intelligence
Wherehoppers seem to be no more sapient than any other grasshopper species, though considerably more intelligent. For example, they can communicate and develop societies, even going as far as breeding other creatures, but cannot comprehend the very concept of asking a question.
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
The unique environments of the Otherwhere, along with their fickle laws of nature allow the wherehoppers to hop between pocket dimensions. Unlike other species of the Otherwhere, wherehoppers can only jump individually, and do not posses the right glands or organ to jump in masses. They overcome this obstacle by the breeding and use of Otherhoppers when traveling in swarms.
Civilization and Culture
Interspecies Relations and Assumptions
Wherehoppers are mostly traders or pirates, though it somehow seems to be an instinct driven behavior rather than a conscious decision. Like all grasshoppers, they have neither vocal cords nor a tongue. Instead, they are capable of communication via gestures and small vibrations of their exoskeleton. Despite not using or having a written language they have a rudimentary marking system for the sole purpose of communicating with other species.
