Health Scrying Bowl

In the past, only those with extraordinary divine abilities could look deep within a being and determine the organic causes of an illness. Even then, much of the diagnosis was left the judgement of the caster. In addition, many casters were not medically trained and could not truly determine if an organ was to blame or something within the organ. The Hesterian monks began to experiment with various means by which they could get more detailed information. They had at their disposal Detect Poison and Disease, Detect Magic, and Scrying. The Scrying spell was of too high a level to be accessible to most medics. It also was specific to someone or some place the caster knows.  The Scrying team was formed of Hesterian clerics, gnomes, and wizards. They worked over the last twenty years and have a workable answer in the form of the Health Scrying Bowl.

This device, when filled with Holy Water, is passed over the prone patient while the medic looks through it from above. Even empty, one can detect poison, diseases, and curses. All that is necessary is a drop of the patient's blood in the bowl. When filled, the Bowl gains twelve points of magical energy at dawn. There are three different levels of scrying. The first allows the viewer to see the bones for one point. The second shows the organs (while they are still functioning) for two points. The third displays the tissues of the organs for three points. The Health Scrying Bowl is fragile and must be well protected with plenty of padding. Therefore, it is not something one would take to the battlefront, but would have in the more protected field hospital. It is also quite expensive to produce. For the initial distribution, regional Hesperian chapels will each receive one. After that, the Health Scrying bowls will be available for sale to those that can afford the fifty thousand gold piece price.
