Bjerian Empire

The Kingdom of Bjeria was founded by Dolnoù the Conquerer in 5.57, unifying the Fourth Age kingdoms of Tvieng, Skay, and Sdoütray under the banner of the Urus. Bjeria claimed its first overseas colony in in 5.451 and, by 5.900, the Bjerian empire had spread to cover 396,268 square kilometers and claim 3 million subjects in its contiguous land base, with another 12.5 million in overseas territories, protectorates, and colonies. This figure represents 18% of the global population under Bjerian rule.   Since the end of the Mage War in 5.920, Bjerian power has diminished substantially, with the kingdoms of Hrafna, Kanmaa, and Sroia gaining independence and the Empire being forced to cede ownership of the island of Kaulaan as part of its reparations and, with it, control of the Summer Sea.

Structure

The leader of the Empire is the Emperor/Empress, who is the divine consort of, and equal authority to, the Empire's namesake deity, Bjeria.   Regional oversight of local territories is delegated to vassal kings, who are reqired to pay tribute to the Imperial family and are kept in line through marriage to and/or oversight by the Emperor's Kingsmage children.   Oversight of foreign colonies is handled by Govenors, who report to the Colonial Office. The Colonial Office also funded "the development and education of promising indigenous talent (PITs)"; a euphamism for indoctrinating the children of colonised peoples in Bjerian culture before employing them as mid-level administrators in their homeland with the intention to leverage the local population's kinship with their returned child to quell rebellion.
